We purchased this Thermos (with the Hello Kitty design from Target) over 1½ years ago. It has held up through almost daily use. It is one of the best kids drink holders I've ever had. We actually have two, one blue one pink.

They each came with an extra straw set but my originals are still going strong.

I can put ice water in it in the morning and send my daughter to camp (outside, no refrigerator) and when she gets home late afternoon, there is still ice in it.

We use them for lunches, travel and daily household use.

Milk stays cold for up to 12 hours (although we don't usually let milk stay out that long).

It has been tossed around (not dropped from any great height) and has rolled around the mini van and the only wear it shows is with the imprint on the outside.

We do not wash it in the dishwasher although I think you can and I take the straw apart each time I wash it - it is a two piece part.

Since we put milk in it, I often clean the straw out with a pipe cleaner so that any residual milk is removed. I use a knife point to go around the inside of the straw connecting point because this can sometimes build up some milk stuff.

It sounds like a lot but it takes less than a minute to wash and I feel like it is clean when we are done.
It reassembles so easily. I've had straw cups that have to be carefully threaded and pushed. This just pops in.

A little pricey for a drinking cup but well worth every penny.

UPDATE 9/3/2010
I just purchased another Funtainer (from Amazon) so that we had one at school with cold water and one at home. Coincidentally, my daughter dropped our old one at school and the top broke.

We had hoped to use this in our 5-year-olds lunch box but have been sorely disappointed. Despite following instructions on how to make sure the cap seals properly, the container leaked on a regular basis. We are not talking just a few drops of liquid but rather a substantial amount. After washing out the lunch box several times after these floods we pretty much gave up and purchased an adult thermos that, while not covered with attractive pictures, actually functions. Overall, this product was a waste of money.

With children you end up trying lots of different drink containers. The Thermos brands have really been the best that we have found. Just solid products that keep the drink cold / hot. One caveat: would be nice to have an immediate supply of replacement straws (which have two components).

I love these Thermos Foogo/Funtainer water bottles - they really keep water cold, here in hot Arizona - but they do have several drawbacks: (1) the bottoms frequently come unglued (2) the tops are vulnerable; if dropped, the lid often will break off or the tab will no longer click (3) the straw assembly sometimes acquires a dark residue that CANNOT be cleaned out. I wish someone could tell me a method: I've tried tiny bottle brushes, tiny instruments, denture cleaner, hand-washing, dishwashing, even bleach!

I bought a Princess Funtainer for my 3-yr-old daughter and once my son was 12 months old I got him the Cars one. The princesses started to rub off after a couple months. At first I thought it was because of the dishwasher but we have since stopped using the dishwasher and the princesses are almost completely gone. When we got the Cars one, we never used the dishwasher and most of the Cars are unrecognizable. My guess is that it is from wiping the outside of the cup with a dish cloth. My son does get a fair bit of food on the cup so we do need to wipe it frequently but I assumed the cup could handle wiping. As far as the function of the cup - it's great! My 1-year-old tossed it on our hardwood a couple times a day and while part of the button has broken off, the cup still latches and works perfectly. Thermos does not claim that the cup is leak-proof when the lid is open, and that is true. If put upside down or on its side while open, it will leak. I love the cup and would likely replace them with plain ones. It's just too bad that the FUN part of the Funtainer doesn't last!

I bought two of these bottles (different patterns) and both leaked. They spilled all over the kid's school work and backpacks. Never again would I buy these. I am disappointed, because the old style bottle didn't leak. I tossed both of the new ones because it isn't worth the hastle of contacting Thermos.

As far as I know, we did everything right. I only used them for water, and so we did not machine wash the canister in the dishwasher, only the parts of the top. We tried them several times, and after the 5th soaking, we were finished. I suppose they keep things cold if they don't spill out, so if you keep it upright at all times, say in the car, it would be fine. Not at all good for sports, backpacks or trips where they carry it in a bag or duffel bag.

The ones I bought were not from Amazon, but they were both Thermos Funtainer and I wanted to let folks know my experience with the product.

I'm a fan of the Thermos Nissan line (bottles and containers) so naturally looked to see if they had a kid-sized version of the same and came across Funtainers. It's not perfect match--unlike my bottles, insert says this is for cold liquids only. Still, this bottle won't "sweat" like the Camelbak bottles we have. It does share a similar setup--a sipper straw (Camelbaks have a bite straw) made of a silicone material which attaches to a plastic inner straw. I did get what was pictured, Belle carrying a basket of flowers. In case you were curious, the other princesses (not pictured) on this version are Aurora and Rapunzel.

Rating is closer to 3.5 stars.
