You won't view Disney the same way again, September 9, 2011
This review is from: The Disneyization of Society (Paperback)
This book examines Disney and the ways how various organizations have structured, framed and themed themselves to be like them. I was actually a bit taken aback by some references to public administration (scientific/traditional management vs. new public management). To simply disregard Disney as a amusement park would be missing the outright concepts of everything they do. For example with thematic elements it is attempting to create an experience and limit anything that might deviate from it. It also highlights the expansive nature of the organization and what that has meant for the areas surrounding it.
This book is important because as more organization attempt to replicate it then we can see where they will be going. If a consumer does not have a real experience with a business it can become merely a generic brand if not term. I should also note that this does not feel at all like a textbook because of the way that it is formatted. The conclusions at the end of the chapters might not really be needed but the points are still very well made.
Highly recommended.
