For Guy (Angie) Leblanc, an Acadian from Cape Breton, California is still the land of Disney— the magic world he has known through television as he was growing up in the village of Bel Etang. But football at UCLA proves to be a very different world, and he is caught up in a
roller-coaster of west-coast sophistication.
The thrills and spills of the football field extend into the rest of Guy’s life as he becomes a star for UCLA. Stardom brings him the attention and attraction of Josie Caulie. Cool and self-possessed at 18, Josie sings the lead with a group and has some firm notions about what she wants.
Offers from the professional teams begin to flow in as graduation approaches. Choices have to be made—for Disneyland, Josie, and the flashy world of U.S. pro football, or to return to Canada.
