Review

“[The setup is] done wonderfully, … you always know immediately which attraction the Hidden Mickeys on that page are for.” --Chad Elliot & Mark Treiger, Days in the Park.com, December 16, 2011

“Newly expanded…this guide is a great resource…small enough that you could easily carry it around the parks with you.” -- Jason Dziegielewski, Disneygeek.com, November, 16, 2011

From the Publisher

My guess is that you have visited Disneyland before, perhaps many times. But if I've guessed wrong, and this is your first visit, then this note is for you.

Searching for Hidden Mickeys is lots of fun. But it's not a substitute for letting the magic of Disney sweep over you as you experience the Disneyland parks for the first time. For one thing, the scavenger hunts I present in this book do not include all the attractions at Disneyland. That's because some of them don't have Hidden Mickeys! For another, the first-time visitor should get ready for fun by also consulting a general Disneyland guidebook for descriptions of Disneyland attractions, shows, dining, and other tourist information.

That doesn't mean you can't search for Hidden Mickeys, too. Just follow the suggestions in Chapter One of this book for "Finding Hidden Mickeys Without Scavenger Hunting." --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

A pocket-sized, spiral-bound book would have been a better design choice.

So far the ones we have found in the book were pretty easy to spot once you read where they are.

This is a fun thing to bring with you once in a while to Disneyland to look for hidden mickeys.

My family have passes to Disneyland and we're there often enough. I have heard about the Hidden Mickeys and have found some on my own. When they had the 50 Mickeys for their anniversary my young sons had a ton of fun looking for and finding them. It's a lot of fun for those of you with young children who love scavenger hunts! It's a way to pass the time while waiting for rides or walking around.
I highly recommend the web site that goes with the book as there are many more that are not listed in the book. But it's a great "beginner" book to the whole Hidden Mickey thing and is great if you're only there for the day.
It's definitely worth picking up!

Over the years, the Imagineers who work for Disney have hidden Mickey in various attractions around the parks. Finding them has become a sport. And with this handy guide, you've got an easy reference to help you find them.

After an introduction, the book breaks itself into three chapters, or "scavenger hunts." One is set in Disneyland, one in California Adventure, and one in the hotels, Downtown Disney, and even the parking garage. No, I'm not making that up. Each chapter is further divided into "clues" and "hints." The clues are rather vague like (making one up), "Look around in the second room you pass through." But the hints spell things out for you. "Check out the dishes on the far wall. The three plates on display are a perfect Mickey." The clues and hints are both numbered, so it's easy to flip back and forth and find the hint for a clue that is completely stumping you.

The instructions in the book are clear enough that anyone should be able to find anything they are searching for. I've looked for some during my last two trips, and found them pretty easily. Granted, I usually look at the hints, but still.

The problem comes from the layout. The "scavenger hunts" are designed to minimize wait times by taking you to all the popular attractions first. However, that also means you are walking all over the park. You start at one end of the park, cross to the other, then go back to the first later. Since I was just using the book to find them as I rode rides, I found it frustrating to have to constantly flip through the entire chapter to see if the current ride was listed or not.

The book is narrow and skinny enough to fit in a back pocket. But it is tall, so I kept mine in my backpack.

I have a feeling this book will become a friend as I continue to hunt for Mickey around the park. I will continue to be annoyed by the poorly thought out layout, however.

An inexpensive book that gets to the point. Great first book because there are still so many more undiscovered hidden mickeys and definitely more will be created by Disney's imagineers as the Disney Resort keeps evolving. It's a great beginner's guide to Hidden Mickeys, although half the fun is discovering one on your own. Its small size is great to take along with you while traversing through the resort. Overall, a good buy.

Because there is no table of contents and no hyperlinked index, it is cumbersome to flip through this book and find the section you need, making it a hindrance to using while at the park. I was hoping for the convenience of having this on my iPhone instead of carrying around a book while at Disneyland. But, because of the format, now I'll have to read each page and mark the info in my notes to reference later. What a hassle to have to flip through every page to try to find the section we need! The one good spot is that each "clue" is hyperlinked to its corresponding "hint" although it doesn't quite solve the organizational problem of using this ebook while in the park.

Kindle versions of reference books should always have an easy-to-access, hyperlinked index and table of contents. When they don't, it not only makes the hard copy a much better value, it makes the kindle version almost useless.I wish I didn't purchase this book!

After reading Disneyland's Hidden Mickeys and taking it with us on our vacation to Disneyland I found the guide bood to be very useful in finding hidden Mickey's. If finding hidden Mickeys is what you like to do, I would recommend this book. If you do not want to find hidden Mickeys do not get this book.

This book is so much fun, we purchased this book at Disneyland and thought it would be fun to find all the hidden Mickeys throughout the parks and hotels. Not only did a teenager who is usually, well a teenager enjoy it but he said it made the trip better for him. I thought it made the family even closer, because as we were going through the rides we would all get so excited to see the mickeys that we had always passed by. The book also gives you the website for even more hidden mickeys, because they are always adding more. I think that if you are planning a trip to Disneyland then you should have this book, it will make your trip that much funnier especially if you have a teenager.

This book introduces the reader to hidden mickeys. I want to point out that you can buy this book IN the park so it's not like Disney is trying to keep any secrets where hidden mickeys are concerned. I would also recommend that folks check out the hiddenmickeys.com website for pictures of some of the mickeys. The website is more fun than the book but obviously not as portable.
