PreSchool-Grade 2-A concept book using characters and elements from Disney's Beauty and the Beast film. One two-page spread invites readers to match the colors of Belle's hair ribbons to the four dresses in her closet. Another shows five characters and asks which is the biggest and smallest. There are 12 challenges in all, and they range from fairly easy (identifying the candlestick that doesn't belong with 9 teacups) to slightly difficult (matching 6 teacups to the saucers that match their patterns). Though the popularity of the film could draw some readers, they won't find much to excite them here. Without music and motion, the illustrations are pretty lifeless. Istar Schwager, George Siede, and Donna Preis's What's Different? (Forest, 1993) does a better job of presenting set theory, and Bruce McMillan, Tana Hoban, and Margaret Miller each use more inventive approaches to teaching concepts.
