In today's consumer world Christmas has often become a materialistic affair with hundreds of dollars spent on expensive gifts. Often we forget that there are also those that are less fortunate. Many children would be all too happy for only a small present for Christmas. This timeless Carl Barks classic comic tale tells the story of how three better off children, Huey, Dewey and Louie Duck, want to change a Christmas for those children that live in Shacktown. The story speaks to children and adults alike and has a powerful message of social justice.

Issue #22 of the the Gladstone Walt Disney soft cover graphic novels from 1989 has a special place in the hearts of collectors of comic by Carl Barks. He was known as the good duck artist, and 20 plus years of his stories and art gave us the world of Uncle Scrooge and Duckberg. In the 31 page cover story, "A Christmas in Shacktown", the author treats to a warm Christmas tale that teaches what a gift it is to be able to give to others. It is full of excitement including Uncle Scrooge losing his fortune, and has some great action scenes for the nephews. It is reprinted from Donald Duck Four Color #367 in 1951. Next there is 3 classic 1 pager by Barks, from the same classic issue. We have another 1 pager from Four Color 256 in 1959. Last is a 10 pager, "Turkey With All the Schemings" from Walt Disney Comics & Stories #148 n 1952. All the Gladstone albums were great, it took me years to collect them all and it was worth the wait. Gladstone publishing was so respectful of the original stories and reprints, and we owe them a big debt in reviving these old stories.
