5.0 out of 5 stars Hooray for DuckTales! And for Accidental Adventurers!, April 23, 2004
This review is from: Disney's DuckTales - Accidental Adventurers [VHS] (VHS Tape)
DuckTales was the first series to start off the Disney afternoon cartoon trend (later dubbed "The Disney Afternoon"), and it was probably the best of the lot! Loosely based on the wonderful, classic Uncle Scrooge comics by Duck Family creator, Carl Barks, DuckTales followed the adventures of Scrooge and the boys, Huey, Dewey, and Louie, as they traveled the globe searching for ancient treasures, and sometimes stayed at home to defend the money bin and battle off the Beagle Boys. Aimed not just at kids, but adult fans who grew up with the characters as well, DuckTales balanced fun, family friendly adventure stories with smart wit and clever plans that grown ups could appreciate.

On the video "Accidental Adventurers," we are treated to two DuckTales classics. First up is "Jungle Duck," which was later translated into a comic book for one of the first issues of the DuckTales title. This story, like the second on the video, finds the kids' nanny, Mrs. Beakley, as a focal point. While traveling to Africa to find a hidden silver mine, Scrooge, the boys, Mrs. Beakley, and their pilot, Launchpad McQuack, find themselves in another plane crash. Remember Launchpad's motto, "If it has wings, I can crash it!" Suddenly, Mrs. Beakley is captured by a wild-duck, apparently raised by apes! While teaching him some basic English in his treehouse, Beakley soon learns that the Jungle Duck is actually the missing Prince Greydrake, whom she was once nanny to until he disappeared while traveling without her many years ago. When Scrooge and the boys finally swing away from the natives pursuing them and catch up to Mrs. Beakley and the Jungle Duck, they realize they must help him return to civilization and thwart the plans of Greydrake's uncle, who set up the boy's disappearance in the first place!

In our second story, "Maid of the Myth," Mrs. Beakley's opera debut is interrupted by a gang of real, marauding vikings! They cart the nanny away, with much other plunder, back to their Nordic homeland. Scrooge, Launchpad, and the kids aren't far behind however, and fully ready to come to the rescue. But when they too are caught, things must be settled by a Ram race between Launchpad and the pride of the Village, the mighty Thor! The gang seems to be in trouble when the only rams available for them to use aren't fit to walk, let alone run, but a beautiful local girl comes to their aid when Launchpad shows her how chivalrous an outsider can be. Another problem arises however, because the Viking Queen is growing jealous of the new "Voice of Odin," who has been brought by her husband to sing for their pleasure. She concocts a plan to get Beakley to drink water laced with a potion to silence her voice for weeks. But, much to our heroes' despair, Launchpad drinks the water instead! Without his voice, he is unable to give the commands to drive the ram team to victory. Now, it's Beakley to the rescue, to take Launchpad's place and hopefully win the day!

Both episodes are great fun in the classic DuckTales style! I don't know what is taking Disney so long to bring all their classic animated series to DVD, but hopefully we'll see some sets in the future! In the meantime, I highly recommend getting the videos!

A Kid's Review
This review is from: Disney's DuckTales - Accidental Adventurers [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Ducktales Accidental Adventures has the best VIDEO episodes. The first one,"Jungle Duck" is where Scrooge, Huey, Duey, Louie, Launchpad, and Mrs. Beakley meet Prince Greydrake, who supposedly disappered. But he gets back to his REAL home in time to be crowned king after escaping from indians, and a crashed plane. The next episode,"Maid of the Myth" is where Mrs. Beakley is taken to Greenland as a princess. But Scrooge and everyone is determined to get Beakley back. so they enter a race. But Stagnard has a plan to collapse the bridge. But it doesn't help because Mrs. Beakley won the race.
