Product Description

Cynical types will accuse Disney of milking the "greatest" concept until it's drier than Tinkerbell's fairy dust ("Supercalafragilisticexpealidocious," "Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Da," and "Heigh Ho" were hits off of Vol. 1; "Bare Necessities," "It's a Small World," and "Some Day My Prince Will Come" stole the show on Vol. 2), but a glimpse of this installment's track listing is all it'll take to squash their suspicions. Once again running reverse-chronologically, Vol. 3 opens with Jonatha Brooke's gorgeously achy ballad "I'll Try," from 2002's arguably not-so-great Return to Neverland, and gradually reaches back through the years to re-raise the curtain on Toy Story 2 ("When She Loved Me," performed by Sarah McLachlan), The Lion King ("Can You Feel the Love Tonight"), Mary Poppins (Julie Andrews's classic "A Spoonful of Sugar"), Pinocchio ("Give a Little Whistle"), and a bundle of treasured others, bottoming out at 1933's "Who's Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf" from The Three Little Pigs. Vol. 3 is not without its weak moments--would a G-rated movie-goers' poll produce Beauty and the Beast's "Gaston" or The Hunchback of Notre Dame's "Topsy Turvy" on a hits list? Seems unlikely. Still, the bulk of these tracks are, as the included Little Mermaid song goes, "Part of Your World," and the spread of decades they represent proves their staying power. Don't expect Disney to latch the lid on its inexhaustible archives until a dozen or so of these records, each as strong as the next, beckon you back for more. --Tammy La Gorce

This CD is great. It has both old and new Disney classics. But...for a little more money you can get all these songs and about 80 more. The 5 disc set sold here at Amazon has 99 Disney classics and sells for about the price of 2 CDs. The 5 disc set includes songs such as Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah from the no-longer released Song of the South, songs from the theme parks like the Electric Light Parade theme, It's a Small World from the NY World's Fair...it has them all! Buying the CDs seperately you probably spend twice as much + shipping; save some money--the 5-CD set is the way to go.

The previous two volumes of this series, chosen by Leonard Maltin and graced by his excellent liner notes, were enough draw to make me buy this one "for my son." Unfortunately, Maltin wasn't involved in this one, and it shows.
I am glad I have it - if only to keep from buying the full soundtracks of all these movies just to get a clean copy of Pat Carroll singing "Poor Unfortunate Souls" (Little Mermaid) or "Everybody Wants to Be a Cat" (Aristocats) or Elfman's fabulous "What's This?" (Nightmare Before Christmas).
I suspect most folks will do what I did, and buy the CD because a few of the tunes still resonate - and there's plenty of power here for that. The "Siamese Cat Song" certainly isn't great art, but it transports me back to child state - where I feel I'm listening to my scratchy old 45 - quicker than you can say "Fess Parker."
I appreciate that the compiler - Ted Kryczko - stuck with Maltin's winning formula of old and new. But his sense of drama and pacing aren't the best. Yes, the Jonatha Brooke and Sarah MacLachlan cuts - featured one and two on the set - are pretty and sweet. I'm sure it's frustrating that these great cuts didn't get heard enough, because the movies were weak. You still don't start with them. Lead with your strengths.
Oh yes, the 6-year-old does appreciate it, but prefers volumes 1 and 2. (Nearly forgot my cover, there.)

Ok OK I know its Disney and allthough I praised the first two Disneys Greatest I didn't like this Cd as much. It seems that they have taken all the leftover Disney songs and put them on this CD. My daughter loves this CD no matter what and I guess if it makes her happy so am I.

In all I found only 5 songs worthy to be on Disney's greatest CD while the others are b- class.

I am sure that hard core Disney collectors don't want this CD missing from their collection but I recommend to rent the CD first to see if its worth your money.

If you want this album it's because you already know the songs from Disney's long legacy of having excellent original music in their movies. In other words you're looking at this because you already like it. The booklet enclosed with the disk is very detailed about who composed the music, who wrote the lyrics, who performed the singing and played the music, what movie the songs were attached to, etc...

The recording transfer is excellent, no clicks or pops from bad re-recording (and many of the songs in this trilogy of albums were recorded a very long time ago where technology is concerned).

If you only want one or two tracks, consider the digital download, if the other tracks are "nice to have" but not absolutely necessary evaluate based on cost, if you want five or more of the tracks buy the disk.

I bought all three of these disk for my daughters Tinker Bell music player Christmas 2009, I haven't regretted it.

I've been buying a lot of American musicals recently, and these include not just Broadway shows but movie musicals, where Disney often sets the bar high for composition, vocal performance, and orchestration. So of course I enjoy the recent Frozen, where you can't go wrong. However, this compilation is weak. I play music of this kind on a 5-disk CD player, to enjoy as "environment" music. What struck me about this disk was that nothing struck me. I had to confirm that I was playing songs from Disney movies, so blah and devoid of character are these sing-song anthems. I bought all three of these disks at low-low prices, and if you have children and a lot of time on your hands, condensing the contents of these into one playlist of highlights could be a lot of fun for everybody. I'll let you know if Disney's Greatest 1 or 2 is of the same mediocre quality.

This excellent CD contains twenty great Disney tunes. The tunes are from all sorts of sources - mostly movies, but even the old good-bye tune from the Mickey Mouse Club. My little one loves listening to this CD in the car, and I don't blame her.

Right, you can't please all of the people all of the time, but I am well pleased. I liked hearing again Jesse's sad song from Pixar's Toy Story 2, Jack's What's This? from Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas, and The Siamese Cat Song from The Lady and the Tramp. I really enjoy this CD, and what is more important, my daughter loves it, which is good enough for me. We both recommend this wonderful CD.

My sister is an avid (read: diehard) fan of anything and everything Disney. As such, the music from each of the sing-alongs serve to remind us of those memories we have of Disney and our love for each and every story.

I like to think this soundtrack is centered around the songs of Disney Villains, at the lowest and highest levels. You've got Gaston, Poor Unfortunate Souls, and the all-time catchy favorite, The Siamese Cat Song from Lady and the Tramp. Along with the emotional, When She Loved Me from Toy Story 2 (Jessie) and some golden oldies, you've got a well rounded soundtrack that will go great with your latest playlist.
