Great music...but save a bundle with the 5-disc set!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Disney's Greatest 3 (Audio CD)
This CD is great. It has both old and new Disney classics. But...for a little more money you can get all these songs and about 80 more. The 5 disc set sold here at Amazon has 99 Disney classics and sells for about the price of 2 CDs. The 5 disc set includes songs such as Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah from the no-longer released Song of the South, songs from the theme parks like the Electric Light Parade theme, It's a Small World from the NY World's Fair...it has them all! Buying the CDs seperately you probably spend twice as much + shipping; save some money--the 5-CD set is the way to go.

The previous two volumes of this series, chosen by Leonard Maltin and graced by his excellent liner notes, were enough draw to make me buy this one "for my son." Unfortunately, Maltin wasn't involved in this one, and it shows.I am glad I have it - if only to keep from buying the full soundtracks of all these movies just to get a clean copy of Pat Carroll singing "Poor Unfortunate Souls" (Little Mermaid) or "Everybody Wants to Be a Cat" (Aristocats) or Elfman's fabulous "What's This?" (Nightmare Before Christmas). I suspect most folks will do what I did, and buy the CD because a few of the tunes still resonate - and there's plenty of power here for that. The "Siamese Cat Song" certainly isn't great art, but it transports me back to child state - where I feel I'm listening to my scratchy old 45 - quicker than you can say "Fess Parker." I appreciate that the compiler - Ted Kryczko - stuck with Maltin's winning formula of old and new. But his sense of drama and pacing aren't the best. Yes, the Jonatha Brooke and Sarah MacLachlan cuts - featured one and two on the set - are pretty and sweet. I'm sure it's frustrating that these great cuts didn't get heard enough, because the movies were weak. You still don't start with them. Lead with your strengths. Oh yes, the 6-year-old does appreciate it, but prefers volumes 1 and 2. (Nearly forgot my cover, there.)

Not my favorite of Disney's greatest...,

Ok OK I know its Disney and allthough I praised the first two Disneys Greatest I didn't like this Cd as much. It seems that they have taken all the leftover Disney songs and put them on this CD. My daughter loves this CD no matter what and I guess if it makes her happy so am I.
In all I found only 5 songs worthy to be on Disney's greatest CD while the others are b- class. I am sure that hard core Disney collectors don't want this CD missing from their collection but I recommend to rent the CD first to see if its worth your money.

This excellent CD contains twenty great Disney tunes. The tunes are from all sorts of sources - mostly movies, but even the old good-bye tune from the Mickey Mouse Club. My little one loves listening to this CD in the car, and I don't blame her.
Right, you can't please all of the people all of the time, but I am well pleased. I liked hearing again Jesse's sad song from Pixar's Toy Story 2, Jack's What's This? from Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas, and The Siamese Cat Song from The Lady and the Tramp. I really enjoy this CD, and what is more important, my daughter loves it, which is good enough for me. We both recommend this wonderful CD.

The songs on this cd are a bit more "adult" than on the others. I really enjoy, but the kids don't really ask for this one.

I ordered all 3 of the Disney's greatest cds for our road trip to Disney world and they are all awesome! This one is not as good as the first and second but it rounds out the collection well.

Disney, in my opinion, dropped the ball for the third installment of the disney classics CDs (which is probably why you only see 1 and 2 advertised on TV). The only tracks really worth it are "I'll Try" (although I have no idea what that is from) and "He lives in you". Other than that, most of the tracks are boring and no up to the level most of the others are. I would not suggest purchasing this cd.

I'm not quite 18 years old and have recently discovered the magic of Disney... again. I listen to this CD almost every day, and am amazed by the small insights the lyrics offer to life. Walt Disney surely understood how to teach children valuable lessons easily. I love all songs, particularly: "Give a little Whistle." This CD is a must-have in any collection, not just for kids, but also for adults

If you want this album it's because you already know the songs from Disney's long legacy of having excellent original music in their movies. In other words you're looking at this because you already like it. The booklet enclosed with the disk is very detailed about who composed the music, who wrote the lyrics, who performed the singing and played the music, what movie the songs were attached to, etc...
The recording transfer is excellent, no clicks or pops from bad re-recording (and many of the songs in this trilogy of albums were recorded a very long time ago where technology is concerned). If you only want one or two tracks, consider the digital download, if the other tracks are "nice to have" but not absolutely necessary evaluate based on cost, if you want five or more of the tracks buy the disk. I bought all three of these disk for my daughters Tinker Bell music player Christmas 2009, I haven't regretted it. |
