"Winnie the Pooh ABC's" is an original Winnie the Pooh story designed to teach rhyming, words and letters. Rather than straight, rote learning, this is presented in the form of a half-hour adventure. Things all get started when Christopher Robin introduces Pooh to a book of rhymes about the characters in the Hundred Acre Woods. Christopher Robin lets Pooh borrow the book...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not what we expected. Very boring and disappointing!
We were disappointed with this. We were waiting for them to tackle up the whole alphabet in the movie....but to no avail. My son was not even thrilled with the movie itself (compared to their 123). He looks bored and does a lot of yawning to this. He'd ask for his WTP 123 instead. They just touched on very few letters, which doesn't even emphasize on them well. The...

He looks bored and does a lot of yawning to this. He'd ask for his WTP 123 instead. They just touched on very few letters, which doesn't even emphasize on them well. The Leap Frog Letter Factory is so much better. I would not recommend this especially for beginners. They might think that's all what the alphabet is about. Don't get this. Get the Leap Frog's version instead. But if your child adores Winnie the Pooh so much, get the 123 instead. A 3-star for some great credits like the animations & sounds.

I bought this video for my 2 1/2 year old because he is very interested in the alphabet. The dvd was a huge disappointment because it didn't deal with letters but focused on rhyming words, etc. Not suitable for my son's age, boring and short. They sing a 60 second song with the alphabet that is an extra feature and that was the only thing he liked. Not a good buy.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed, March 4, 2005
Not what I expected at all. The actual show didnt really have to do alot with teaching the letters. You have to go to the special features to get all the letters and it is so boring. The Leap Frog Letter Factory is so much better in my opinion and it also teaches letter sounds not just the letters alone and it does it in such a fun way.

Christopher Robin lets Pooh borrow the book and soon Pooh and all of his friends are learning about rhymes, words, reading and the alphabet, with some help from wise old Owl.

One of the major complaints about this movie seems to be that it only introduces a few letters. If this is a concern for you or your child, then I recommend making sure you get the DVD version and not the video. It has a wonderful special feature that goes through the alphabet thoroughly, having the characters teach each letter in both upper and lower-case and associated words. Adults will probably get bored with this pretty quickly, but it'll be dead useful for your kid(s). There's also an ABC song with scenes from "The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh" that's quite worthwhile.

Overall, if you want your kids to learn the alphabet, or just wanna see another good Pooh story, I'd say you can't go wrong with this, especially if you get the DVD version. Also included on the DVD version is a Fast-Play option and previews for movies such as "Mulan II" and "Pooh's Heffalump Movie," as well as the original trailer both this and the 123s video / DVD.

Was there anything else I wanted to say? Oh, bother. Think, think, think...

1.0 out of 5 stars Too advanced for a 3 year old, April 10, 2006
For children just learning their alphabets, this video is too advanced. It doesn't even have the "alphbet song".

It has rhyming and "spelling" that is currently being taught to my first and second grader (i.e. words like: "near" "sky" ""stop" "friends")

The story line is too distracting.

Teaching lessons are too far apart to be beneficial.

Disappointing a multibillion dollar company couldn't spend a little on a consultant familiar with teaching preschoolers.

These videos, "Pooh's 123" and "Pooh's ABC" has convinced me not to trust Disney on education videos.

This is not a video for a preschooler, and only a review for older children already know how to spell.

4.0 out of 5 stars Winnie the Pooh ABC's, October 25, 2004
Very enchanting movie! Not a comprehensive spelling lesson as the editorial review says, but nonetheless, a great starting point for letter recognition and sound. My 2yo absolutely loves this one and also the 123 video too. Definitely favorites in our house:o)

This is by far our son's favorite video. He is thrilled by the wonderful, orchestral music, and the funny scenes with the characters. I'm sure he doesn't understand the entire plot, but for sheer enjoyment, I wish I had 10 movies like this! Highly recommend!

2.0 out of 5 stars If You're Looking To Teach Letters, Look Elsewhere, February 5, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I have to agree with the vast majority of the reviewers and say that this product is more or less useless when it comes to its expected purpose: to teach pre-schoolers the alphabet. It focuses mostly on words and rhyming. This might be good for older children, but not for a two year old and not for a parent that wanted something to teach letters.

The bonus song was the only part I could admit to hitting the target, but it's very short (2 or 3 minutes) and there are only so many times you can put it on repeat before you want to tear your hair out.

I purchased this DVD after falling in love with the Shapes and Sizes DVD, which is also from Disney's Learning Adventures. The difference is night and day. (I also own the 123s, which is also tremendously better than this disc).

If you want to help your child learn letters (and even the sounds the letters make), go with the LeapFrog Letter Factory disc. I bought it along with this disc after reading the reviews here and it has earned every good word said about it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Does Little to Entertain Much Less Educate, January 12, 2005
Pooh! I can't believe I spent $15 on this video. It is soooo BORING and miserably lacking in educational value. My little girl wouldn't give it the time of day. I had patience, though, and waited to see how it might redeem itself by creatively introducing letters and sounds to promote alphabet recognition and beginning phonics skills. Disney should have hired a phonics instructor or a reading teacher to guide them in learning theory before promoting this movie as "educational." Good for the Pooh collector, that's it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Few letters, but teaches them well, January 11, 2005
By
JB "Mama" (VA United States) - See all my reviews
This video does only teach a few letters (P, R, T, O, E), but it teaches them incredibly well. My daughter (3 yrs) has only been watching it once a day for a week and she can write all of those letters. None of the other kids in her class can write them. Most importantly, she is very excited about being able to write letters now! This video has really primed her for learning to write. I was initially disappointed that only 5 letters were covered, but once she started writing them, all my disappointment went away.
