When you're a feisty green one-eyed monster apprenticed to the top Kid Scarer at Monsters, Inc., you adapt terror tactics to everything you do. So it is with the Monsters, Inc. Mike's Scare Scooter, the remote-control wireless monstermobile that puts Mike Wazowski from the animated Disney/Pixar movie into the driver's seat, and lets kids navigate with the push of a button or the crank of the joystick. Forward, backward, or preprogrammed perambulation--all with a combo of flashing lights, horns, reverse beeping, and Mike's manic and panicky chatter--is guaranteed to send your spooked kitty back to where most monsters dwell: under the bed. On carpet, though, the scooter's motion is more frustrating than frightening: Mike's right foot, attempting to simulate leg power, tends to get caught in the nap of even the smoothest rugs. But sheer terror really lies in the number of batteries required to operate the Scare Scooter: six AA and three AAA. For that alone, Mike should be able to graduate from apprentice scarer to certified journeyman.
