Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

Deep in the heart of the Hundred Acre Wood, learning math is a fun adventure. With Pooh, Tigger, and their friends leading the way, children are guided through seven engaging activities that teach beginning math skills. As kids accomplish each skill, they earn a fun reward they can use to build their very own gardens. Skills include counting, sorting, adding, and subtracting. Three levels of difficulty allow children to learn at their own pace.

In Pooh's Pantry, kids practice counting by emptying the baskets in the right order. Piglet's Cupcake Kitchen lets kids decorate Piglet's cupcakes as they come out of the oven: kids frost them, add them up, then choose the jar of sprinkles that matches their total. Other activities include helping Rabbit Roo and Tigger collect bugs for the garden, and visiting the Wishing Well, where number matching makes wishes come true.

5.0 out of 5 stars Kids love growing gardens, April 22, 2002
This review is from: Disney's Ready For Math with Pooh (Jewel Case) (CD-ROM)
This has been a popular game with all my kids, they enjoyed earning all the rewards for the garden.
The ability to plant seeds and watch them grow (extremely quickly when watered) is very popular and to keep this activity going when you have a full set of three plants they are liable to get eaten so that you must plant some more.
One child was disapointed that eyore did not appear when she had recieved all the rewards and tell her how much he liked the garden which was an oversite on the designers part as pooh does suggest that you make eyores garden pretty for him.
The games suit a wide range of childrens interests with mine there favorite seems to be bug sorting (by colour), followed by eyores calendar as they loved following the bug or frog depending on the level, which teaches number recognition up to 30 and tiggers contraptions where you must follow the blueprint and match an outline drawing to the actual item in the correct order to make an interesting contraption and you dont seem to see the same one twice.
Piglets cupcakes they found they could just click on the jars to get the right one eventually and they did enjoy decorating the cupcakes. Poohs pantry is counting up to 30 and every time you play the jars have different veges and fruits. The wishing well deals in sets and the first two levels are fine dealing in sets of 1-5 and 6-10 but I found the third confusing myself as it was very hard to tell how many were in the sets of 10 to 15 as they used different items in different sizes within the sets.
Lastly is the raindance quilt with rabbit, the only level the kids enjoyed was the third where they made the pattern and repeated it down the quilt.
There are also plenty of click points to keep kids amused, and your rewards either do something when clicked on or are plants/seeds to grow in the garden. Every time you return to the garden you find a note to read on the fence, and some of your plants might get eaten.
Overall you cannot go wrong with getting this game for your younger children ages 2-5 would get he most use from this game.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Math Software for Young Kids, January 16, 2002
By
This review is from: Disney's Ready For Math with Pooh (Jewel Case) (CD-ROM)
My 3-1/2 year old got this for Xmas and he really enjoys it alot (spent most of Xmas afternoon on the computer!).

There are 6 different activites - all math related. The numbers go up from 1 to 30 (which pushes him beyond what he is used to in other math type software for his age). The activites spark the imagination of a young child (for example, adding and subtracting cupcakes and then allowing the child to decorate the cakes afterwards). Skills include counting, adding, subtracting, more/less, pattern recognition, grouping numbers, number formation.

Best part of the software (from my son's standpoint) is that the rewards allow him to grow a beautiful garden full of fruits, vegetables and flowers. The rewards are clearly motivating and the goal is obvious.

Pros: Fun and entertaining, skill developing, clear goals and rewards, favorite characters of Winnie-the Pooh and friends

Cons: The pattern recognition activity leaves something to be desired. The activity is quite boring and repetitive, and at all levels too easy for even a 3-1/2 year old! Also, to complete the garden, you must complete all 3 levels (which is a little much to expect); but my son did persist and over 3 days completed the entire game and then started over again!

5.0 out of 5 stars Makes pre-Math fun!, March 11, 2002
By
Annette Doyle (Dripping Springs, Texas USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Disney's Ready For Math with Pooh (Jewel Case) (CD-ROM)
We have had this software since my son was 18 months and now he is three. At first I would go through it with him and he enjoyed the beautiful garden and the Pooh characters. There are also alot of place where you can just click and make things happen - like a skunk stealing rabbit's flowers, a squirrel playing drums on the roof etc. Now he can do most of the games himself with a little help. You start out in the garden and can go from there either North, East or West - in each place you have a choice of going to someone's house - Tigger's, Rabbit's, Pooh's etc. and in each is a different math related game. Most of the games are very good - our favorites are Piglet's house in which you decorate two trays of cupcakes and then add how many total you have and Tigger's house where you drop different items into his machine (in the order on the blueprint) and then a contraption pops out at the end. When you finish 5 rounds of a game you get a prize for your garden like tomatoes to plant or a windmill, waterfall etc. in the end the garden gets quite elaborate. This software is well worth the money.
