This review is from: Walt Disney's Uncle Scrooge in Land Beneath the Ground! (Gladstone Comic Album Series No. 6) (Paperback)
The wittiest, best-scripted and -drawn comics of the Fifties were done by Carl Barks, working in complete anonymity under the signature of "Walt Disney." In addition to being vastly entertaining, they taught "life lessons" that were actually useful, and introduced Boomer kids to lots of interesting mythology and subversive ideas (the kids were generally smarter and more resourceful than their adult mentors). This was one of the more memorable stories, presented as it was originally printed (no odious computer "enhancement") but in more durable form.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Main Story, and Excellent overall, April 4, 2006

This review is from: Walt Disney's Uncle Scrooge in Land Beneath the Ground! (Gladstone Comic Album Series No. 6) (Paperback)
The Main story is superb, a classic that re-appears in an edited format in DUCK TALES ( Late 80's Cartoon series) as EARTHQUAKE, Disc 3, vol.1 of the Current DVD set. Also, you get a very good adventure with all the crew as the support story.
Even if you know LAND BENEATH THE GROUND, this will be a bonus, since the story has had sections rebuilt from edits previously not restored. The restoration is fairly good, and totally within character for Bark's work.
The Cover of the Comic is good, although I had the center of the Comic separate again from the cover, but no damage, since I am getting the two comics repaired.
Hopefully you will know the story, so those who do will enjoy the comic, and the kids can enjoy a very kid friendly comic, vastly superior to the rubbish around now. Absolutely superb Work, great stories, detailed characters, and an ongoing mythos in the Duck Universe that still resonates ( as I said, it re-appeared in DUCK TALES tv series).

5.0 out of 5 stars Carl Barks adventure at its best, December 22, 2010
This review is from: Walt Disney's Uncle Scrooge in Land Beneath the Ground! (Gladstone Comic Album Series No. 6) (Paperback)
Yet another over-sized comic album from Gladstone Comics, reprinting classic tales by the good duck artist, Carl Barks. These Gladstone albums are high quality in production, with crisp clean images from the original art, instead of scanning old comics. The black and white art is then colored, and if possible any missing pages or panels from years gone by are restored. The paper quality, cover, inks are all really good and I am so glad the publisher made these. Also see the Carl Barks Library in Color softovers, or the Carl Barks Library hardcovers if you want to complete a collection of Barks.
The cover art for this issue is by a modern duck artist, Don Rosa, who is very talented in his own right. The 2 stories are:

1) "Land Beneath the Ground" a 29 page adventure story originally printed in Dell Comics Uncle Scrooge #13, March-May 1956. Script and art by Carl Barks. This is the wild story about the Terries and the Fermies, underground creatures that can roll like balls.
2) "Pipeline to Danger" is a 17 page exotic adventure, originally published in Dell Comics Uncle Scrooge #30, June-August 1960. Script and art by Carl Barks. This is one of those tales where Uncle Scrooge deals with a tiny race of people, less than a foot tall (like his story Microducks from Outer Space), this time a tribe of Arabs.
