4.0 out of 5 stars Lovely pictures from the movie, September 12, 1999
My four year old son loves this book, mainly because of the large pictures from the movie. These pictures are of an excellent quality. And for the dads (and mums) there's not too much text so you still have an evening left after reading this book before your child goes to sleep!

3.0 out of 5 stars Just o.k., August 21, 2003

I bought this book with the hope that it could replace the videotape that my four-year old son is wearing out. He likes for me to read this book to him but he always stops me so he can fill in the gaps in this adaptation. He was especially touched by the scene in the movie where Buzz fails to fly and realizes he is a toy, but this scene is omitted from the book, so we always have to recreate it, which can be fun. Still, he was disappointed not to see it in the book and always, I mean always, asks why it was not included. The illustrations are very good; they appear to be straight from the movie but, overall, this book doesn't capture the spirit of the movie. It is a good option for travelling if you don't want to bring the video or dvd and you can act out the omitted scenes with your child.

5.0 out of 5 stars Toy Story, September 14, 2010
ISBN 0717287335 (and ASIN 8440661916) - Manufactured in the United States of America (yay!). Intended age group not stated. Childrens' books with movie ties are awesome ways to introduce reluctant readers, but avid movie fans, to the world of books. That alone makes these books worth a look.

Woody and the other toys are nervous the day of Andy's birthday party. Who knows what kind of toys he'll get and which of them will get neglected in favor of the new ones? The toy soldiers spy on the party, reporting back on events, but their walkie talkie dies before they're able to report the worst of the news. Andy's gotten a Buzz Lightyear toy - a space ranger! Woody doesn't welcome the delusion toy, who refuses to believe that he's a toy at all. Buzz "proves" he can fly and, later, gets himself and Woody into some trouble with his attempts to find a way "home". More than any of the other toys, Woody is jealous of Buzz, who seems to be replacing him in Andy's heart, but the two become friends as they face multiple dangers, from getting lost to the evil boy next door who likes to blow up toys. Everything settles down... until Christmas!

No author is listed, which I find sad because this is one adaptation that works very well and leaves out very little of importance. I like knowing who does the adaptations so that I can try to avoid the bad ones. The illustrations appear to simply be shots from the movie. Your child's Disney's Wonderful World of Reading series is absolutely incomplete without this one.
