5.0 out of 5 stars What a bargain, and beautiful, too!
We were going to buy individual books when we noticed this book. What an amazing collection of Disney stories! Twenty-three stories, from classics to more recent Disney tales, include: Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, Pinocchio, Bambi, Cinderella, Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, Lady and the Tramp, 101 Dalmatians, Jungle Book, Aristocats, Mickey's Christmas Carol,...

3.0 out of 5 stars Like it, but not thrilled
I actually do like this book for my 3 year old. The stories are a perfect length for her and the pictures are beautiful. She really enjoys looking at it on her own. But beware of a few things. First of all, Dumbo is pictured on the front cover, so I assumed the story, one of my favorites, would be in the book--it is not. Also, there is so much editing. If you've never...

We were going to buy individual books when we noticed this book. What an amazing collection of Disney stories! Twenty-three stories, from classics to more recent Disney tales, include: Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, Pinocchio, Bambi, Cinderella, Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, Lady and the Tramp, 101 Dalmatians, Jungle Book, Aristocats, Mickey's Christmas Carol, Oliver & Company, The Prince and the Pauper, Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Lion King, Pocahontas, Hunchback of Notre Dame, Hercules, Mickey and the Beanstalk, and Three Little Pigs.

Each story is about fourteen pages long, with great pictures from the movies on each page.

The book is about 9 inches square, so a bit unwieldy for a child to read sitting, but quite enjoyable if it is spread on a table or held in your lap. The binding is durable and the pages a bit glossy for easy cleanup.

I don't think you can go wrong with this great collection.

4.0 out of 5 stars This is a great diversion for kids addicted to disney videos, January 14, 1999
By A Customer
Our 2 year old son loves this book. We had gone in search of individual disney books to read when he's already had a disney movie that day or when time is just too short for a movie. The pictures are beautiful and it has helped him learn many new words and concepts. We're giving it as baby gifts to several friends and relatives.

If you've never heard the stories before, or even if you have, you'll be left feeling a little lost because so much text and pictures are edited out. For example, in Peter Pan so many references are made to the Lost Boys and the crocodile, but no picture is ever shown of either. My daughter, never having read the story before, really wanted to see what they looked like. That is common throughout the book, as is making mention of characters who are never introduced to the reader. It would have been better if they replaced Mickey's Christmas Carol--as Christmas stories are not typically read year round and there are still 2 other mickey stories--with Dumbo since he is on the front page. Even scaling back by one story, maybe The Three Little Pigs (not really a Disney classic) would have allowed for more pictures and required less editing of the other classic stories.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ideal for the younger set, March 11, 2002

My 3 yr old absolutely loves this book. She has gotten hours of enjoyment from studying the pictures. Take it on the road, into the bathroom, to Grandma's, anywhere... it'll keep them occupied. She loves Disney movies, and this lets her feed her appetite for them without turning on the TV. The stories gloss over the scary parts, so there is no mention of what happened to Bambi's mom. (We will not be watching that one anytime soon!) The book's missing some things my daughter would like to see, such as Tarzan, Mulan, Robin Hood and Dumbo. However, it's got pretty good coverage of the Disney collection. It's a good read, too. In general, the stories are well-written and not too long. A lot of detail is missing, which is what makes this more suitable for younger children. All in all, a good buy!

4.0 out of 5 stars Heavy editing of stories leaves out a lot, March 3, 2005
By
Honestly, I think I would pass this by if I hadn't received it as a gift for my little one. The editing of the stories is extensive to some degree, to the point where you don't really know the characters to which they refer. If you don't already know the stories, then I highly suggest getting the real story and let this collection pass by. It really isn't a collection of the popular stories as it alludes - just a very brief rendition of those stories. Not sure why the three litttle pigs was included in this collection either - not really a Disney classic. It's okay if you're wanting to read the selections of this book as a short bedtime story, but if you're wanting a library of classic Disney stories, buy them separately because you'll be very disappointed in this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good adaptations, manageable story length, November 28, 2001
By
I got this book for my 2.5 year old and he loved it fromn the star. It contains about 30 classic Disney stories with beautiful illustrations.

The sturdy binding makes this edition perfect for frequenmt use by impatient toddlers. What is more important is that the movie skripts have been skillfully adapted amd DO read like a story. They contain the essential information without retelling the 1.5 hour long features. This also makes the stories' lenght manageable for the attention span of a young kid.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Attractive and Bright!, March 25, 2003
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This is the first Disney Storybook Collection I purchased for my son. We absolutely love the book! There are twenty-three original stories in this collection. Every page, front and back, has beautiful illustrations and the words are large and easy to read. The pages are trimmed with shiny gold paint and in great quality that'll last you generations of page turning and reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars Disney Story Book, September 12, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The best review I can offer is that this compilation of Disney Favorites reduced to print and art work can captivate my 3 year old grandson - and trust me, not much else that exists on the planet can make that claim. We start by looking at the front cover and he points to one of the pictures and tells me he wants to read "this one". (By the way - there is a problem since dumbo is on the front cover but the story isn't inside - so steer clear of dumbo). Once he makes his selsction we dig into the book and he finds the story by finding the right picture and off we go. There was one occassion when we repeated this process at least 6 times. We read this book for at least an hour. believe me when i tell you that this 3 year old spends a lot of time either riding his training wheeled bike up and down the sidewalk or bouncing off the walls. I love this book - and you and your three year olds will love it too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book!, February 9, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I love this book! I work as a camp counselor and love to read bed time stories to some of my kids. This book is great because it has all the classics. The kids recognize the stories, and it makes it easier for them to fall asleep most nights because they already know what happens and they don't have to focus as much. They're abridged versions, as well, so they're shorter, and I can read them a couple stories if they want. The pictures are great, straight from the movies. Definitely a must have for any story book collection or just because!
