5.0 out of 5 stars Spin It!, December 14, 2001

This review is from: Disney's Talespin - Imagine That! [VHS] (VHS Tape)
What can I say about TaleSpin...it is simply one of the best cartoons ever made. It won an emmy for the "Plunder & Lightning" made for TV feature in 1990. But its fine quality goes largely unnoticed due to Disney's poor advertizing and marketing of this show. The characters are complex, the storylines are fast-paced and amusing (and occasionally heart warming), and the animation is top quality. TaleSpin was the first cartoon series to use the new medium of computer animation...it was used in the stunning airplane sequences. This is one of those rare cartoons that has a little something for everyone regardless of their age or gender.

The first episode on this tape is "Flight of the Snow Duck". Molly wants to go see snow so she and Wildcat sneak onto the Sea Duck as Baloo is taking off to Thembria. When they get there they are arrested for playing in the snow and sentenced to 1000 years in prison for using their imaginations. Baloo soon joins them after he is thrown in jail for "defacement of state property". Molly learns the importance of imagination as they build a plane out of ice and an old air conditioner. Then they make their escape in the plane with the Thembrians in hot pursuit. This episode is hilarious and creative.

The second episode is "Flight School Confidential". Kit wants to fly the Sea Duck but Baloo won't let him because he thinks Kit is too young. While Baloo is at Louie's, Kit waits in the Sea Duck despondently. He turns on the Sea Duck and tries to fly it but crashes into Louie's instead. Baloo and Louie have a few good laughs at Kit's mistake. "This is why 12 year olds don't fly...who'd let a kid like you get his wings." A thembrian tells them that in Thembria the flying age has just been lowered to 12 so Kit decides to go to flying school there and prove Baloo wrong. When he gets there he discovers that the school is just a scam and that they aren't going to let any of the kids fly. Kit tries to organize a rebellion but it falls through when he crashes a thembrian plane. When it comes time for the kids to fly in formation (they will actually be sitting in planes that are bolted in formation while a proffesional flies the lead plane) Kit decides to make his escape. Baloo comes to the rescue after he recieved a post card from Kit telling him of his escape plans.

Overall this is an excellent tape. Both epsiodes are outstanding and "Flight School Confidential" is a very important episode in the series. This tape is a must have for TaleSpin, Disney, or animation fans. I would advise you not to miss out on the fun.
