5.0 out of 5 stars :), February 5, 2001
This review is from: Disobedient Bride (Man Of The Month, Hawk'S Way) (Silhouette Desire) (Paperback)
Zach Whitelaw wants children so bad he can taste it. There is only one problem, he needs a wife. Zach does not want a wife, but he knows he needs one to have the kids that he wants. So, in his mind the most logical unemotional thing to do is to advertise in the newspaper for one.

Rebecca Littlewolf knew Zach when she was younger and has always had a crush on the man. Even after not seeing him for six years, she was still in love. So, when she sees his ad in the paper she figures that it is the best way to get him in her life. She figures that she can always get him to fall in love with her.

Zach only has one condition for his new bride, she has to be pregnant within a year or he will divorce her and in exchange for this arrangement he will help her start a children's camp for cancer victims.

As the year unfolds it proves to be heartbreaking, heartwarming, and emotional. Can there lives survive the crisis that they face. This is a great story with an emotional ending.

5.0 out of 5 stars 8th in Hawk's Way Western/Romance Series, February 14, 2007
This review is from: Disobedient Bride (Man Of The Month, Hawk'S Way) (Silhouette Desire) (Paperback)
"The Disobedient Bride" is 8th in the Hawk's Way Series of western/romance novellas. It follows "The Unforgiving Bride" and "the Headstrong Bride" 3 stories of the next generation of Whitelaws. These are all about the 3 children(AKA "The Whitelaw Brats") of Garth and Candy Whitelaw, now all in their 30's. The three novellas stand on their own, although it is fun to follow the family romances through the years. These 3 stories, although all centered around the theme of marrrying for the wrong reasons, each have fresh characters and storylines. There is always some subplot or adventure to go along with the romance.

Although I think the term "disobedient bride", does not quite fit the story of oldest brother Zach's marriage to the wife he actually advertised for(she is more of a woman with her own mind), it was my favorite of the three. Zach has some deep rooted emotional problems when it comes to love. His first love died in an airplane crash two days before they were to be married. But that was 7 years earlier, and there is more to that story that Zach lets on. He just can't seem to get past it. But he wants heirs to his ranch "Hawk's Pride", land given to him by his father. When Rebecca Littlewolf sees the ad, she knows it was meant to be. After all, she lived on the ranch as a child while her father worked for Zach, and has been in love with him to this day. But Zach makes it clear right from the get-go that he only wants a mother for his children, and Rebecca lets him know that all she wants from him in return is to open a camp for children in remission of Cancer.Their passion heats up the pages while trying for a child, but Zach has given Rebecca 1 year to get pregnant. Can he keep from getting emotionally involved with this woman who heart is opened to everybody that needs a helping hand? Their story is a good one to get totally involved in.

These stories are sold individually, and almost all the novellas are also sold in 2 in 1, or 3 in one books. This one is included in Hawk's Way Brides, with the other two mentioned above. Some of them include 'Hawk's Way Grooms', and "Hawk's Way Rogues". Some of the books have a family tree in the beginning, so you can keep up with the family and also see the order of the books. Johnston has several other series to get involved with. If you like these, you many want to check out the full length novels in the Bitter Creek Series(modern day descendants of the Sisters of the Lone Star Trilogy.

Get lost in a romance for a while and enjoy the read....Laurie

3.0 out of 5 stars Like the characters, the ending ... meh!, July 19, 2011

This review is from: Disobedient Bride (Man Of The Month, Hawk'S Way) (Silhouette Desire) (Paperback)
After reading other Hawks Way books, this one was a disappointment. Putting aside the whole 'why would you marry a man who doesn't love you' question (there is an answer that, while not entirely satisfying, worked), the way the romance unfolded just felt contrived. The trip to the fertility specialist was poorly researched. The rationale why HE wanted a loveless marriage ... okay ... the dude got burned badly (I won't spoil it for you).

The 'tragedy' before the end just totally didn't work for me. He could have loved and accepted her without it (after all ... nearly a year of trying nightly and not succeeding ... the tragedy was just contrived) and adopted the little girl. It's too bad the plot just plain did not work because the characters themselves were intriguing. It was the situation they found themselves in that just plain was not credible.
