Biography

Chiasm is a solo female electro project from Detroit, MI created by Emileigh Rohn in 1997. The named comes from the greek letter "X", pronounced chi ("c" sounds like a "k" and rhymes with sky) and was chosen in relation to the crossing of optic neurons in the brain that allow us to have continuous and peripheral vision. In the same way, it was started at a time considered a point of "crossing… Read more in Amazon's Chiasm Store

5.0 out of 5 stars A brilliant and passionate debut from a Detroit siren..., March 27, 2001
By
Jennifer M. Griggs "dj.ste.mairet" (Saint Louis, Missouri, United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Disorder (Audio CD)
Ann Arbor/Detroit's own Emileigh Rohn has provided a wonderful debut CD in the area of "power-electro" (a versatile brand of electronica that settles comfortably with raver, goth and industrial kids alike). There is dance music. There is ethereal. There is industrial. Elements of all three blend in perfect balance on this album. AND, what's really awesome is that women of the Electro persuasion now have a great role-model with a SOLID collection of songs under her belt. Chiasm has delivered songs with creative structure and powerful lyrics. One of my favorite songs, "Isolated", has the coolest layering I've heard in a long while. "Fight" has an infectious and driving beat that, honestly, is unparalleled in much of the music around. And "Someone" (a personal favorite) is a lot slower and deliberate, but completely seductive. Emileigh is truly paving her way through the hordes of angry, angsty industrial men, and showering the world with her lovely (and sometimes angry) voice and innovative sound. If you don't simply LOVE this album, I suggest you get your head checked.......

5.0 out of 5 stars Mass service for the doomed..., September 18, 2002
By
This review is from: Disorder (Audio CD)
Listening to "Disorder" came as a big surprise. After i was through the first, very good, song of the album, i thought "hmm, another one of those one-hit electrogoth groups"? How wrong i was..
Chiasm are far from the one-hit league. There's much to be heard here: the electrogothic element is the dominant one of course, a nice touch of industrial and some very obvious german EBM influences are all at hand. And so? Would this alone be enough for 5 stars? After all, "Chiasm" aren't the only group that has tried this formula with some success.
But no. What makes them special is, to begin with their singer. She has this truly remarkable way of being agressive and convincing through subtlety and she brought to my kind the words of Trent Reznor in an interview i once read: "...what's really difficult is to be subtle".
She reminded me quite of a bit of that great poet-singer Anne Clark, especially in the way she delivers her songs. I fell in love with her voice.
But the music doesn't lag behind at all mainly because it's fresh, it's full of ideas. The atmosphere works perfectly, and ties in ideally with the singer's charismatic performance.
Sounds like a mass service for the doomed.
Here in Europe Chiasm went largely unnoticed, which is a shame and a pity when you think that other bands that don't have half the talent this group has have made it big in that field.
If you are a fan of the abovementioned genres buy this! Satisfaction guaranteed, period.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great CD, January 29, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

I love the work Chiasm is doing. It is kind of clubby, but with darker undertones. I had never heard of them prior to playing Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines, and have been interested ever since.
