From Library Journal
Stafford, an Episcopal priest and church history professor, aims to restore the language about sin, including the "deadly" sins of gluttony, lust, avarice, anger, envy, acedie, and pride, "in penitence and hope." Each of the central chapters begins in praise of the goodness of an aspect of God's creation, then presents a sin or distortion of that goodness, follows with a discussion of the remedies for that sin, and concludes with a contemporary example. Thus, sin is presented as ways of damaging what God has made and surrounded by hope of restoration and prevention and. Carefully reasoned and accessible to lay readers, this book is recommended for public and seminary libraries.
