Handy Reference to All Things Golf,
By
This review is from: A Disorderly Compendium of Golf (Paperback)
First and foremost, if you have a golfer you need to buy a gift for, look no more. This is especially true if you want said golfer to go off in a corner and be quiet for a number of days. A Disorderly Compendium of Golf grabs you won't let go. The only downside is you'll have to put up with your golf walking around the house, saying things like, "Did you know Jack Nicklaus finished in the top ten in all four annual majors five times in his career?" Granted, not inspired dinner conversation, but pure nirvanna to a golfer.

It's really disorederly....,

but that makes it very entertaining. Amusing stories, pictures and one-liners. Also a lot of "fun to know" about courses and players.

After carefully reading reviews of this book I ordered it for my golf-crazed husband. I am sure he will enjoy this stocking-stuffer at Christmas because I have read a few excerpts myself, and I enjoyed them. The book arrived in good condition and in a timely fashion. I would purchase from this vendor again.

If you think you've heard every golf joke or bit of trivia involving the sport, this book will have plenty more tidbits you haven't heard yet.

Almost any book can be read once, but the best books in the world are those you want to RE-read; The Disorderly Compendium of Golf is one of those precious few books. Many golf anthologies are nice for one reading, but that's it. Even the "Chicken Soup" series of golf books don't really rise above the others. But Rubenstein and Neuman's Disorderly Compendium is *so* much better than the others; the authors executed this fun, multi-genre approach brilliantly and in a consistently entertaining fashion that will happily keep your interest. The book's contents--stories, lists, quotations, and history worth knowing--are also plenty interesting enough that I continue to re-read this thing for hours at a time. If you are trying to attract someone into taking up the game, I respectfully recommend that you use the Disorderly Compendium of Golf as one of your tools. Obviously, the book is also very ideal for potential readers who have a short attention span, too. :) I only hope that Rubenstein and Neuman eventually decide to write a Disorderly Compendium of Golf, Volume II. This is a solid five-star book with no qualifications. |
