Book Description

Neurological Disease & Therapy February 5, 2007

Entirely devoted to the relationship between sleep and brain function, and the improved management of sleep in patients with neurologic diseases, this completely updated Second Edition includes new sections on the role of hypothalamic dysfunction in narcolepsy and the emerging relationship between sleep apnea and hypertension, heart disease, and stroke. With chapters analyzing the treatment of specific disease states, this convenient guide offers recommendations for the management of primary sleep disorders, sleep disorders secondary to well-established neurological disorders, and the neurological consequences of uncontrolled sleep conditions.

4.0 out of 5 stars An excellent review of the topic, July 1, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Sleep Disorders and Neurologic Diseases, Second Edition (Neurological Disease & Therapy) (Hardcover)
This expertly edited volume by a leader in the field of neurological sleep disorders provides a comprehensive review of the area. The authors are well chosen. Particularly outstanding are the several chapters on narcolepsy and hypersomnias, on REM sleep behavior disorder, sleep apnea and stroke, and stimulant-dependent and hypnotic-dependent sleep disorder of which few other comprehensive reviews exist. Other topics which are often relatively neglected in textbooks on sleep medicine are those on dementia and sleep, autonomic dysfunctions and sleep disorders, headache and sleep, traumatic brain injury and sleep problems, and on multiple sclerosis and neuromuscular disorders and sleep. All in all an excellent group of contributions to this important field. As sleep is controlled by the brain, all sleep disorders have a neurological/neuroscience component.
