Editorial Reviews

About the Author

Stefan Petrucha has written X-Files comics and for Disney comics. He is the author of a few YA series: "Timetripper" (Razorbill), "Frankenstein" (DK Books), and "Wicked Dead" with Thomas Pendleton (Harper Collins).
Sho Murase is active in the animation field. Graphic novels coming from Tokyopop and Image.

More About the Author

Born in the Bronx, Stefan Petrucha spent his formative years moving between the big city and the suburbs, both of which made him prefer escapism.

A fan of comic books, science fiction and horror since learning to read, in high school and college he added a love for all sorts of literary work, eventually learning that the very best fiction always brings you back to reality, so, really, there's no way out.

An obsessive compulsion to create his own stories began at age ten and has since taken many forms, including novels, comics and video productions. At times, the need to pay the bills made him a tech writer, an educational writer, a public relations writer and an editor for trade journals, but fiction, in all its forms, has always been his passion. Every year he's made a living at that, he counts a lucky one. Fortunately, there've been many.

This was purchased for our early teen daughter and she really seems to like them. The books are built well enough to handle trips in and out of school back packs and the mysteries are, "exceedingly wonderful and captivate my mind". They are well illustrated and certainly worth a few bucks to keep these kids reading. Now if I can just figure out why they are called "graphical novels" and not just "comic books" (snicker) :] The bindings (if subjected to abuse) come apart but hold up 'ok' with normal wear and tear.

"The Disoriented Express" is installment #10 in the graphic novel series featuring Nancy Drew, girl detective. The series updates the popular novels by Carolyn Keene, reimagining teenagers Nancy Drew, best friends Bess and George, and boyfriend Ned into 21st Century River Heights.

As the story opens, Nancy, Bess, George, and Ned are guests on a special private bullet train transporting a long-lost 200 miles per gallon engine that featured in installment #9, "Ghost in the Machine." The excitement of the River Heights crew at the prospect of a high speed run to Denver is tempered by the presence on-board of Nancy's nemisis, the whiny, coniving Deirdre.

As the train proceeds, Nancy discovers it is no longer under the control of its operating computer or of its human engineer. Instead, the train seems to be headed at very high speed toward a horrendous train wreck somewhere in the Dakotas. Nancy, George, Ned and Bess will have only a short time to figure out who is in charge of the train and how to stop it...

"The Disoriented Express" is an exciting story, and is highly recommended to the latest generation of Nancy Drew fans. This story concludes in installment #11, "Monkey Wrench Blues"; fans might wish to order both.
