4.0 out of 5 stars the mystery unravels to reader and hero simultaneously
I enjoyed reading a book that I couldn't forcast the ending - that little twist of supernatural really kept me guessing. I also enjoyed some of the word games and mind games that came up throughout the book, serving both the plot and the continued interest of the reader.

2.0 out of 5 stars Too many quirks spoil the broth
Although not a bad writer, Brenchley cannot easily fit his tale of mysterious amnesia with his tale of an ambiguous angel; it was as if Buffy the Vampire Slayer and NYPD Blue decided to air a crossover episode--the genres are just too different to be a good fit unless handled brilliantly, which is not here the case.

I myself found the mystery angle compelling, and was annoyed when the angel angle intruded. This wasn't enough to put me off his work entirely--this was an interesting attempt by a writer new to me--but I can't recommend it as a satisfying read.

Note: a 3 star ranking from me is actually pretty good; I reserve 4 stars for tremendously good works, and 5 only for the rare few that are or ought to be classic; unfortunately most books published are 2 or less.

4.0 out of 5 stars Dispossesion a great book by Chaz Brenchley, May 4, 1998
This review is from: Dispossession (Hardcover)
Dispossesion is a book you will find hard to put down. Although a little hard toget into once you do its a great read. The story is about a guy named Jonty who wakes up in hospital after a car crash with no recollection of the past 'about' 6 months. He awakes in a life he no longer recoginises and now must seach to find out why among other things he is married to a wife he dosen't know, working for a well known criminal, and how his long time mysterious friend Luke fits into all this, all the while trying to aviod being killed in the process. A hard book to catorgise its probably a thriller with a supernatural twist.
