Karsh Kale - Distance,
This review is from: Distance (Audio CD)
Though Karsh Kale seems poised to inherit the Indo-techno title, DISTANCE shows what a tricky prospect this is. The original is traditional techno with Indian vocals atop and some tablas thrown in. Competent, but it's no Talvin Singh. But Banco de Gaia takes the track down a swirling dancefloor path that somehow seems more ethnic than the original. Go figure. The Midival Punditz go slightly darker and more psychedelic, which is upped by Mighty Junn, who also up the tabla quotient. Capt. Groove doesn't do anything quite new, so we'll just have to see if Karsh Kale can properly claim the title on his own.
