5.0 out of 5 stars Changed my Attitude and Life, April 25, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Distant Partner (Paperback)
When God speaks to us we never know what form it will be in. I believe God led me to read "Distant Partner" by Christian based author, Dr. Les Carter. Distant Partner taught me how to communicate with my spouse. Not only did the book teach me how to be a better communicator, but it showed me how to be secure in myself and not rely solely on my spouse for my inner-security and happiness. I highly recommend this AWESOME book! This book changed my life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Played a huge part in saving my marriage, June 20, 2010

This review is from: Distant Partner (Paperback)
I almost didn't read this book because I had been separated from my husband for at least 6 months and things seemed hopeless. When I read this book it seemed like this guy must have had hidden cameras in my home before the separation. I had been wholly focused on what my husband did or didn't do. Without being preachy it showed me that I had played into the patterns in our home. I learned to respond differently- less reactively. My husband still seemed the same for another 7-8 months. It wasn't until we had been separated 14-15 months that he started to treat me and our daughter differently. I wouldn't have noticed a difference in him had this book not been in the back of my mind from months earlier. Finally after 1 1/2 years of separation and after about 3 months of consistently different behavior from my husband we decided to reunite our family. That was 3 years ago.

Even if your marriage is seemingly past the point of healing, I would recommend reading it. Your spouse may not change or want to reunite, but it's helpful to recognize your participation in the patterns. I've watched most of my family repeat the same patterns with 2 or 3 subsequent spouses and would never wish that on anyone.

I pray you are blessed with the opportunity to heal your marriage and reunite your family. If that isn't possible, I pray that you learn enough from this book to break the patterns you and your spouse practiced.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very helpful book, June 3, 2007
This review is from: Distant Partner (Paperback)
If the title of this book caught your eye, please order it. If I had read this book years ago, my marriage might not have dragged on in agony for so long. I'm NOT saying this book ended all the problems, but it brought a lot of things to light that I didn't know or recognize. If you are a hurting wife, please order this book, it explains in clear terms that you are not the reason your husband is so distant. There is a short section on things you can do to get him to open up, but you can take it or leave it, it's not an instruction manual on how you should act, it focuses on the husband's brain and where he is at. Again, I don't agree with everything written in the book, but it helped us break down some major communication barriers. You deserve better in your Christian marriage, and if your husband is truly a Christian, then he should comfort you by reading and discussing this book with you. Didn't God plan for our marriages to be happy? We are not creating a good example for Christ if we are miserable in our marriages, please get this book and start working toward a HAPPY marriage for the legacy of Christianity. I also recommend 'Discovering the Heart of a Man' by Ken Nair, it is one of the best books you will find to help you understand your distant Christian husband.
