1.0 out of 5 stars Never arrived
USPS is not a reliable shipping method. I tracked this package as it was first sent to the city I live in and then on to about 2 other states and finally delivered to someone in a totally different state from where I live. The worst part was there was NO human being to be talked to at either Amazon or the post service. Makes me leary to buy again from Amazon.

Scott August's _Distant Spirits_ alters the feeling of my immediate environment as soon as the first track begins, and for me brings to mind the clarity of desert light, the smell of damp Juniper as a summer thunderstorm races by, and the almost eerie feeling of quiet I get out on the empty mesas. Treat yourself.

I have owned Distant Spirits since it first came out and have listened to it several times. Scott has done a wonderful job in both performance and production aspects of this CD. Close your eyes, sit back, and listen to Distant Spirits ... it will transport you to a land of Peace.

5.0 out of 5 stars A place i call home, March 8, 2003

I have a special place far up in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. I listen to lots of music there since it is the one place that I have peace and truely consider the home of my soul. Some music instantly doesn't belong, some music fits but is only appropriate to the task I'm doing, like chopping wood and some music provides a simple distraction. Distant Spirits comes the closest to peaceful magisty of this place. It has become the first thing I play when I get there and if I'm at my home in the city it instantly transports me back there. There are very few things in my life that have this power. I will wear this one out and buy another, but I will never be without it. Thank you Scott August.

Mr.August has a special gift to capture the essence of the southwest. Dare to close your eyes and be whisked away by a myraid of sounds that take you through canyons and valleys that dazzle the imagination while the soul is transported to it's Creator. This collection of music has become one of my favorites and I look forward to future projects by this talented artist.

5.0 out of 5 stars Distant Spirits: A pleasant journey for the soul., March 8, 2003

Distant Spirits is a wonderful mixture of world instruments featuring the native american flute. The texture that is woven is very etheral. The soundscapes of this CD transports the soul to a relaxing and meditative state. Here one can be at peace with your private thoughts and feelings. There is something magical about the native flute and the arrangements on this CD evolke something primal and yet natural. I have owned the CD for about one year and have listened to it time and time again. Each time I do so it transports me to this same wonderful place. The music is timeless and I never seem to tire of its soothing and comforting rythms. The use of these ancient instruments and natural sounds strike a very pleasant chord with my soul. The brillance of this work is how these simple sounds have been so brillantly arranged to form this unique work of art. It easlily is at the top of my list of Native American flute music. It is easy to see why it was nominated for a Native American music award. It is balm for the soul and pleasing to the ear. Brilliant!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Native Flute Newcomer!!, March 6, 2003

I teach and perform on Native American Flute, and have literally hundreds of Native Flute CD's. When someone asks me what my favorite is, I ask them what kind of music they like, who their current favorites are, etc. And when I get around to recommending specific CD's, "Distant Spirits" is always in my top three no matter what their answers are.

Scott is a wonderful musician who has taken his talent and applied it to this wonderful instrument. Many "Native" CD's sound so much the same from track to track, but Soctt shows his wide diversity of styles in this CD. He has mixed in just a touch of sound effects, not overdoing it like most who try to add thunder, birds, water, etc.

This is a great CD for background, but make sure you sit and really listen. You'll hear something different each time. Can't wait for the next offering from Scott.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Relaxing Music, March 24, 2011
This review is from: Distant Spirits (Audio CD)
Scott August is a very talented Native American flute player. His music has a tranquilizing effect. It's difficult to explain what it's like but try to imagine getting transported into a different world. I often sleep to his music because it is so relaxing.

This is my first Scott August album. I have a pretty eclectic love for various kinds of music and am particularly drawn to the Native American flutes and drums when it comes to relaxation. I listen to this CD almost every day. On the evenings I can actually take a moment to sit out on my patio and breathe, I have this CD playing. It is truly lovely. And the nature sounds that are intertwined with the music are not overpowering as in some other CDs of this type that I own. Also, some of the Native American flute CDs I own aren't nearly as nice as this CD. The flute flows so easily ... in other CDs of this genre that I own, in some tracks, it gets really (for lack of a better term) 'jazzy' in that annoying jazzy kind of way that makes a person feel all jumbled up and annoyed. I will definitely be purchasing more Scott August CDs.
