Terrific romantic fantasy,
This review is from: A Distant Tomorrow (Book Two of the World of Hetar) (Paperback)
Five years have passed since the war between Outlands and Hetar (see LARA). Outlands High Council clan leader is murdered by his brother Adon in a power grab. However the deceased's half mortal wife Lara avenges his death by calling for her sword Andraste and slicing off the treacherous sibling head before leaving to fulfill her destiny though from the darkness Adon tells her Hetar is coming and she will no longer be legend.
Leaving her children behind, Lara begins her quest to fulfill the destiny she avoided by crossing the large sea. However, Lara fails and is captured and given as a present to Terah ruler Magnus. He quickly finds his beautiful prisoner fascinating as she does not fear speaking her mind, but does so intelligently. When she lifts a curse that has ravaged his land, Magnus agrees to take her home. However, Gaius awaits Magnus' arrival with an assassination plan that will leave him as the monarch. War seems imminent with only Lara capable of preventing it, but her chances seem slim even if a prophecy is fulfilled. The second World of Hetar romantic fantasy is a terrific tale starring a strong female (duh - this is a Bertrice Small novel) and a world in which treachery is the norm. The action filled plot is driven by Lara, a terrific heroine whose adventures make for a superb thriller. Fans of romance and fantasy alike will enjoy this spellbinding book. Though reading Lara first provides some extra knowledge, A DISTANT TOMORROW stands alone as Ms. Small provides a strong epic tale. Harriet Klausner

I loved this book!,

After reading some of the other less than happy reviews of this book I felt compelled to put in my two cents worth. I have been a fan of Mrs. Small's books since her first book came out. This book does not disappoint. I love her new venture into the world of magic and science fiction and can't wait for the next book to come out. As with most of her other books, I have read the two in this series twice and found new things that I had missed in the first reading. I will be the first in line to buy the next in this series when it comes out!

Show me the magic!,

It was very clever for Mrs. Small to use the anagram of EARTH for both HETAR and TERAH. I was surprised that Lara had steamy sex scenes with only one man (unusual for the author's heroine characters)on this book. And of course the heroine ABANDONED her children again(this I would say typical of the author's heroine characters) then claims that she's a good mother(BS). Lara acted stupid on the part when she introduced Magnus as dominus/ruler of a place called Terah to Gausius and Jonah thus opening the pandoras box of curiosity about the place. And also I don't understand why the Shadow Princes with all their good power/magic would let an evil and greedy man like Gausius Pospero (and Jonah in tow) to rise in to power. Because of these I guess with all their magic, Lara and the Shadow Princes are not very smart after all. But then of course that's the part and twist of the story the author would say!

A Distant Tomorrow,

Bertrice Small is my favorite author. I love all her books. This one captures the imagination. What it would be like to live in several different worlds. Similar but yet each is so different. I love the magic of it all. I can't wait to read more of Hetar. The adventure, and the finding of ones self, different loves, rejection, fear, transporting, flying so many things that would be wonderful to experiance. I especially love the fairy aspect of it.

I liked this second installment of the Hetar series. It is nice to see a full novel and not a collection of short stories. the story moves at a good pace and flowed well in my opinion. Kudos to Ms. Small for this work!

Lara has become stronger (magical) and wiser. She know her destiny and keeps moving forward. She tells her story to her son, now that he's gotten older and to Mangus. Unlike the last book Lara's story isn't repeated as much (maybe 2 times), but the she lets everyone know she's got a destiny to fulfill.
I love this series. It's a nice mixture of fantasy and romance. I can't wait for the next book and I hope this series keeps going on in more books.

Ok, while the second part to the series is not quite as good as the first my attention was definitely still held. Lara is an awesome character probably the finest and most original since Small's Skye O'Malley. The world she has created for her Lara is equally as captivating as its heroine; my criticism for this book lies in the plot, not in the overall plot but the plot of this particular book. I felt that it dragged a bit, was maybe even stretched for a trilogy when maybe the subject matter was best left for just a two parter. I don't know, I will have to reserve absolute judgment until I see the end story. But my asertation as of this moment is that the second part was interesting and well written filler.

I can think of no one better to write a center of a series than Ms Small. It was well done and though gives you a peek at the next as always she leaves you wanting more

I have never read fantasy before, and this was my first book by Bertrice Small. The book was great, and as always the author was wonderful. I have been reading her for 31 years. I hope she comes out with more books.
