Editorial Reviews

“The second book in Blackstock’s Moonlighters series starts off with a frightening incident and is filled with actions from that point forward. A multilayered story of deception, greed and secrets unravels at a perfect pace to keep readers interested and entertained.” (RT Book Reviews, four stars)

“Blackstock has such a way with characters that they can get away with almost anything---like being part of a family with an unreasonably high body count---and still manage to be believable. Distortion is a good suspense novel but more than that it brings up a number of attitudes and actions that will have readers examining their own thought patterns and values.” (

More About the Author

Terri Blackstock is a New York Times best-seller, with over six million copies sold worldwide. She has had over twenty-five years of success as a novelist. Terri spent the first twelve years of her life traveling in an Air Force family. She lived in nine states and attended the first four years of school in The Netherlands. Because she was a perpetual "new kid," her imagination became her closest friend. That, she believes, was the biggest factor in her becoming a novelist. She sold her first novel at the age of twenty-five, and has had a successful career ever since.

In 1994 Terri was writing for publishers such as HarperCollins, Harlequin, Dell and Silhouette, when a spiritual awakening drew her into the Christian market. As she was praying about her transition, she went on a cruise and noticed that almost everyone on the boat (including her) had a John Grisham novel. It occurred to her that some of Grisham's readers were Christians, and that if she wrote a fast-paced thriller with an added faith element, she might just find her niche. As God would have it, Christian publishers were showing interest in the suspense genre, so she quickly sold a four-book series to Zondervan. Since that time, she's written over thirty Christian titles, most of them suspense novels.

Besides entertaining her readers, Terri tackles issues that she hopes will change lives. Her recent book, Predator, was inspired by her experiences on Facebook and Twitter, and her concern that people posted too much personal information about themselves. The book deals with an online predator who uses social networks as his playground. She hopes the book will change readers' online habits. Her New York Times best-seller, Intervention, was inspired by her own personal struggles with a daughter on drugs. In the book, a mother hires an interventionist for her drug-addicted daughter. But on the way to treatment, the interventionist is murdered, and the daughter disappears. Barbara, the mother, sets out to search for her daughter. Terri modeled Barbara after herself, and poured many of her own emotions and experiences into that character. As a result, many families experiencing drug addiction have written to thank her for telling their story and giving them hope.

Other recent books include her stand-alone novel Shadow in Serenity, and Vicious Cycle (Book 2 in her Intervention Series). She's also known for popular series such as the Restoration Series, the Cape Refuge Series, the Newpointe 911 Series, and the SunCoast Chronicles series.

Terri has appeared on national television programs such as "The 700 Club" and "Home Life," and has been a guest on numerous radio programs across the country. The story of her personal journey appears in books such as Touched By the Savior by Mike Yorkey, True Stories of Answered Prayer by Mike Nappa, Faces of Faith by John Hanna, and I Saw Him In Your Eyes by Ace Collins.

This was my first time reading a Terri Blackstock book and I absolutely loved it! It is a page-turner, for sure, with skillful storytelling that just draws you in.

The first chapter opens with a somber scene as Juliet Cole's husband is murdered in a U-haul parking lot as she watches. Juliet and Bob had two sons, and she thought a good marriage, but Bob seemed to have another life which she knew nothing about. She had loved Bob, and if there were clues to his deception, she certainly didn't see them. She only saw the best in him. She and her family were entangled in grief and shock and all she could see ahead of her was heartache. There are many startling revelations, and Juliet takes many blows to her heart. She wanted to give up, but she had to go on for her two sons. Juliet's husband had a past life that had taken her to the lowest of the low, but she was determined to persevere because of her faith and hope. And the story unfolds ---

The author spun a tale of mystery that was complicated, and it will keep you guessing, with a storyline that ended with a big crescendo of suspense. The characters were well drawn and likable and I liked the subtle spiritual aspect of the book. A lot of depth to this story - a great read! I highly recommend this book, written by an incredible author! 5 stars.

Reading this book, I knew it was going to be a nail biter in some parts. The back cover told me that the husband was murdered in front of his wife and it really does start off with a bang.

The entire book I was mourning for his wife. It was a sad book with more and more drama upon every page. I guess I just was not in the mood for such a sorrowful book. I wanted there to be some positives even in the middle of the negatives. I kind of felt like I knew what was going to happen at the end, which I cannot tell you - or it would be a major spoiler.

The book itself was very easy to read and the story was super simple to follow. The characters were believable and I felt like I was a fly on the wall watching their every move. The author did do a great job of telling a story.

I even let my teenage son read it - although I would say it is for a more mature audience.

As for the stars - I would give it a 3, I did like it. I don't think I could read it again though...mostly because of the depression I would get.

Terri Blackstock is definitely doing something right. She has penned a long list of titles, each with thousands of goodreads ratings averaging 4.0 or higher. Her novels are full of suspense, action-packed, and fast-paced, but they are nothing special to write home about. In Distortion, her most recent novel, I found the plot unoriginal and the characters flat. The novel felt rushed to me and unpolished, as though it could’ve used another edit, as thought it was not quite ready to be published.

So what makes this author so successful? Blackstone is doing what every commercial author needs to do to succeed in today’s competitive publishing environment. By writing entertaining, quick-read novels, she has developed a following, and she is feeding
her followers with new releases on a consistent basis.

The second in the Moonlighters series, Distortion is not a stand-alone book. I felt at a disadvantage for understanding the character’s motivations without the benefit of having read Truth-Stained Lies. I was nearly halfway through before I began to connect the dots. There are a lot of characters to keep up with, each with his/her own past but all of them connected together from the previous episode.

When I grabbed Distortion from Netgalley, I didn’t realize it was a Christian book. Admittedly, I’m no expert on Christian books. At first, the Christian element seemed out of place in this murder mystery/thriller, where the main character’s husband is a drug-dealing adulterer who is executed by goons looking to gain access to the money he has laundered in his off-shore accounts. But I found Juliet, the protagonist, likeable. A loving mother and wife, Juliet remains loyal to her family throughout, even when confronted with her husband’s sins.

I was excited to get an advanced copy of this book as I have been a fan of Terri Blackstock ever since reading The Suncoast Chronicles. She writes good books of suspense and intrigue mixed with drama and a touch of romance.

This book is a continuation of the Moonlighters Series, and I have read Truth Stained Lies, but it was not necessary to read the previous book. This time Juliet Cole finds herself in a seemingly avoidable tragedy until she starts to undercover the truth. Her husband was not the man she thought he was, and he was involved in things that she had no clue that he was doing.

I do not want to spoil the story for anyone reading this review; however, I will say that the story line went from surprising, to far-fetched, to completely unbelievable. I just could not believe that a wife would have no idea that her husband was involved in drug dealing and used his practice to fuel the prescription drug problem. Also, the family was connected to 4 murders but the murders are no related. I find that hard to believe.

Even though I was not pleased with the story line, Blackstock is a good writer. The book was easy to read, and the action was not hard to follow.

I had this book on my list to buy as soon as it came out, but I was able to get a copy for review. I am glad that I did not have to pay money for this book and that Zondervan through the BookLook Bloggers program gave me a free book in exchange for this honest review.
