I recognized their popular songs(Agora, Giants, and Bone Digger) on this album and decided to buy it and because I loved the bands sound, best thing I have ever done. All of the songs are great with nice beats and some of them even outshine the three that are popular in my book such as(Party Hats, Moment of Silence, and my favorite Bad Friend). If you are a fan of the three I listed then buy this album because all of the songs are wonderful and chill. This album has been on repeat for the past four days and is still rocking. The more you hesitate the more time you are losing to listen to this wonderful album!!

I recently saw Bear Hands in concert (more on that later). If you're not familiar with this band, Bear Hands is an indie-band from Brooklyn, and their sounds reminds me of White Rabbits, among others. Bear Hands issued a promising debut album in 2010 called "Burning Bush Supper Club". Now finally comes the band's second album.

"Distraction" (11 tracks; 36 min.) starts with a tentative "Moment of Silence", with singer-songwriter's Dylan Rau's lead vocals heavily distorted (on purpose obviously). "Giants" explodes like a rocket in the night. Things slow down on "Vile Iowa" (Iowa is vile? who knew?). All but one of the songs on here clock in around 3 min. and most of them make their musical point and then move on. Love that energy. The second half of the album opens with "The Bug", reminding me of XTC 30 years ago for some reason. One of the album's best tracks is "Peacekeeper", with heavy guitar riffs and crashes, beautiful! The album closes with "Thought Wrong", a super-slow, introspective tune that frankly sounds a bit out of place as compared with the rest of the album. But it's a minor quibble. Bottom line: this is a belated but very welcome return from Bear Hands!

I saw Bear Hands in concert just this past weekend at the Bunbury Music Festival here in Cincinnati. They played an early evening set that had been delayed due to a thunderstorm passing through. Rau & Co. didn't care one bit, as they gave their all and the appreciative crowd ate it up. They played mostly from the new album, and truth be told, live these songs sound much heavier than on the studio version. If you have a chance to see these guys in concert, do not miss them! Meanwhile, "Distraction" is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

I think this is an awesome Bear Hands album. I've been listening to them since I their Golden EP was released. I am really proud of them, and think that they deserve the kind of recognition that they're finally getting. I think this is a wonderful album to have following "Burning Bush Supper Club". There are a couple of songs in the middle of the album which I'm not particularly crazy about, but the beginning and end of the album are really strong and have excellent flow. Great album, lots of great singles and definitely worth checking out!

I found this band purely by chance (Dylan Rau's father is my doctor). I scoped them out on the net, listened to them on u tube and I was hooked. I love Distraction. My favorite song is Giants but there is not a bad song on the CD.

Do not hesitate to buy this CD. I think the music transcends generations. I am in my mid 50's and love it!!!!!

Easily one of my favorite releases of 2014. "Giants" was a great, radio friendly single but hardly representative of the bands diverse sound. "Bone Digger" has racked up most plays for me. Other high points are "Agora" "The Bug" "Bad Friend" "Party Hats" "Peacekeeper".
