Jess Kimball's Impossible Mission: Protect Crime Victims

Relentless victims' rights advocate Jess Kimball and Jack Reacher both deliver justice when the legal system fails. Reacher waits until trouble finds him and then he does whatever it takes. But Jess pursues legal justice and draws lines she will not cross. How can she win against killers who refuse to follow the rules?

Three years ago, beloved Florida Governor Helen Sullivan’s world shattered when her only son died in a senseless car crash, killing his best friend, too. Helen quickly discovered Eric’s crash was no accident and lured the killer to her son’s funeral to be caught. When the shooting ceased in the small country church, Helen believed her nightmare was over. Instead, she’d unwittingly escalated her duel with a cunning and patient assassin.

Now, investigative journalist Jess Kimball is driven to find the horrifying truth. Is the Central Florida Child Killer guilty? Or is the real killer still out there?

Helen and Jess together face the determined killer in a pitched battle of wit and nerve while Helen's husband struggles to live. Who will survive?

5.0 out of 5 stars Compelling, Scary Read May 19, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Normally, I read romance, but Ms. Capri's thrillers are slowly pulling me over to the dark side. <vbg>

Fatal Distraction was a thoroughly enjoyable book. I couldn't put it down. Looking into the mind and heart of a psychopath is always frightening and Ms. Capri does a good job of keeping the reader on the edge of her seat. She clearly shows the logic and reasoning of a twisted mind. Pitting him against an intelligent and driven reporter and a smart female governor is putting a flame to tinder and it's always fiery.

Tight plotting and Ms Capri's typical well developed characters make this book a compelling read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Florida's Maggie Thatcher May 17, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Fatal Distraction is a home run. Love Helen Sullivan. She's the kind of governor I wish Florida had. She reminds me of an American Margaret Thatcher. As a conservative, nothing would make me happier than to vote for Governor Sullivan, but since we can't do that, I'm on my way to read Fatal Distraction again instead.

5.0 out of 5 stars Too exciting to put down! May 18, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Fatal Distraction was excitingly suspenseful and kept me on the edge of my seat throughout. The people were real, both the good and the bad. I love books with strong female characters and Fatal Distraction has at least two: Helen and Jess. I would love to read more of them and see what happens to them next. Is there a possibility of a sequel? Diane Capri definitely has a new fan in me. I look forward to reading her other books soon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Legal Thriller June 8, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I'm so glad I took a break from science fiction and fantasy to read Fatal Distraction. It's smart, fast-paced, personal and, dare I say, thrilling. It's the kind of "this could happen to me" thrill that really chills me to the bone if I think about it too much. I could not put this book down until I found out if everything was going to turn out okay. Does it? Well you'll have to read it and see!

This story features two fantastic women: Jess, a reporter who is on a personal crusade for victim's rights, and Helen, the governor of Florida. I wish all of our politicians were like Helen. She is solid in her beliefs, fair, and she stands for something. She follows the law, even if it doesn't necessarily make her happy. I can respect that. Jess strives for the truth, even if it's painful, and even if she doesn't like the answer. I can respect that too. What hooked me about this story was watching these two women, both with their unique opinions and point of view, each just trying to do the right thing. I think they made quite a team. One I wouldn't mind joining.

The other hook for me was the relationship between Helen and her husband Oliver. I don't want to give away plot twists, but I will say poor Oliver is having one hell of a week. He's still grieving the loss of their son, he's had a stroke, and in general he's not in a happy place. And then he's...well, go read the story. Through it all, Helen stands by his side. That, more than anything, tells you what kind of person she is. I loved this couple for their strength, courage, and dedication to each other. Even in the face of politics, and loss, and crap that life throws their way. We should all be so lucky as to have a relationship like that.

5.0 out of 5 stars Electricity in Print May 20, 2012
By Satori
Format:Kindle Edition
"Strong stuff. Diane Capri has written a tense story of the underside of life in the power corridors of Florida. The characters are studies in psychology, both normal and abnormal. They struggle with the pain of rememberance, as they try to navigate the mysteries of the present. The story moves from the statehouse to horse country, painting a vivid picture of the sunshine state, even as it explores the shadows beneath the palm trees.

4.0 out of 5 stars Strong and ambitious May 21, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Governors and Reporters are not usually the tandem you get to see work so well together in the real world. Fortunately, we have Diane Capri to bring us to the Florida coastline where the possibility not only exists but wins us over with a great introduction into a promising (hopeful on the reader's part) new series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Addresses tough issues with compassion June 23, 2012
By Kass
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
In Fatal Distraction, Diane Capri tackles the complicated and controversial issue of capital punishment from the multiple perspectives of the governor who must decide whether to let an execution proceed, the reporter who is a staunch advocate of victims' rights but wonders if this criminal is responsible for this particular crime, and the parents of both the murderer's child victims and the murderer himself. This thought-provoking novel is populated with strong women and likeable men. Ms. Capri fully develops these characters while maintaining a tension-filled pace that will keep you turning pages well into the wee hours of the morning.
