Distributed Application Development with PowerBuilder 6 is dedicated to distributed application development in the PowerBuilder environment. It focuses on Distributed PowerBuilder. This text is packed with code samples to guide you every step of the way. Also included is a robust server framework I have used on real-world projects. A "must buy" for anyone preparing to go to the next level of PB development!

If you are a Powerbuilder Guru, you must read this book, otherwise you'd take the risk to know less than your apprentices. If you are a novice, you must read it to become a Guru. Don't loose time with me, go to buy one!

A Great Book For Learning Distributed PowerBuilder,
By A Customer
This review is from: Distributed Application Development with PowerBuilder 6.0 (Powerbuilder Developer's Library) (Paperback)
A wonderful book that finally fills in the gap left open by most other PowerBuilder books. The first few chapters give a great overview of distributed powerbuilder. From there the book goes on to give an indepth description of how distributed computing relates to PowerBuilder. Code examples are given constantly throughout the book so that you can see what exactly is going on in the author's head. The book concludes with chapters that deal with intergrating PowerBuilder with Jaquar and COM. A must read for PowerBuilder developers who are looking to make the leap from Client/Server to Distributed Computing.

This is a great book for learning how to do distributed PowerBuilder development. The first part of the book gives a great overview of distributed architecture and why you would use it. Then the book walks you through a basic (Hello World) example and builds on that. Source code is available from the publishers web site. It is very helpful. For the price of the book, you can actually have a prebuilt Server Application. More focus could be given to Web-PB, but I think Mike might be writing another book on that. This book is highly recommended!!!

This review is from: Distributed Application Development with PowerBuilder 6.0 (Powerbuilder Developer's Library) (Paperback)
This book is absolutely fantastic. It starts out assuming practically nothing. It gives a good explanation of the concepts of TCP/IP that the PowerBuilder programmer needs to know and proceeds from there. If you are going to do ANY multi-tier architecture applications then you absolutely must have this book

Well done, Michael !!

This review is from: Distributed Application Development with PowerBuilder 6.0 (Powerbuilder Developer's Library) (Paperback)
This book cover all aspects of Powerbuilder Distributed components. It is clear, informative, well written and contain many examples. Although covering what is generally considered an advanced topic, this book should be understandable by Powerbuilder beginners. Most technical books covering a product are bad. This is a welcome exception. Overall an excellent book.

This review is from: Distributed Application Development with PowerBuilder 6.0 (Powerbuilder Developer's Library) (Paperback)
Powerbuilder developers have been inundated for years with mediocre and poorly edited texts. This book is a rare gem! The text is clear and wonderfully developed. The reader is walked through the building of several different types of distributed applications, from a basic 'Hello World' distributed app to a full application server and finally Web.pb-based app. This, however, is Not a book for the novice. The concepts are clearly explained but the author's target audience is (thankfully) experienced professional developers. I highly recommend it to anyone who is serious about n-tier development. It's also a great book to use to study for the distributed development portion of the CPD exam!
