Editorial Reviews

With bone crunching fights and death defying leaps, this adrenaline charged follow-up takes the groundbreaking parkour action from DISTRICT B13 to thrilling new heights. (Fangoria) Two years have passed since elite police officer Damien Tomasso (Cyril Raffaelli) teamed up with reformed vigilante Leito (David Belle) to save the notorious District 13, a racially charged ghetto populated by violent drug dealing gangs and vicious killers. Despite government promises to maintain order, the state of the district has deteriorated. A group of corrupt cops and elected officials conspire to cash in on the redevelopment of the district by proposing its destruction under nuclear air strike. Damian and Leito must join forces again, using their martial arts and unique physical skills, to bring peace to the neighborhood by any means necessary.

I bought for my older brother. He and both watched it one weekend and well... Don't get me wrong, we loved the actors in the movie and the story, but this was a dubbed version of the movie. You can tell the actors are not using their real voices and not only that, but the one big guy in there whose a rapper RZA, I think is his name in real life, they gave him two different voice overs through out the movie. So his character doesn't even sound all that tough. It is a bit distracting when they do a dubbed version of a movie and can't use better voice over actors to fit each character that another actor is portraying. Otherwise it ends up making the quality of the movie poor and ridiculously funny. Depending on how you view it. I didn't even realized that I got the dubbed version of the movie until it came delivered to my house and we watched it. We were looking for the original one where they speak in french and there are English subtitles, but in any case, the movie itself wasn't too bad. I would've given it move than three stars had they not used voice over actors that didn't fit the personality of the characters for the actors that were already in the film. I guess you get what you pay for.

I can't say that I have seen too many French films before, spare the ever so awesome Brotherhood of the Wolf, but after that and the District 13 films, France has definitely made it's mark in American culture with such bad@$$ films. Yes, the film quality isn't necessarily quite up to pace with American movies, but it makes up for it with some pretty decent acting and some awesome stunts. Cyril Raffaelli (Live Free or Die Hard, Kiss of the Dragon, Hitman), busts out some outstanding martial arts, and David Belle pulls some spectacular stunts using the art of Parkour...awesome athletic ability. The duo does a great job together in these films. If you're an action/martial arts fan, I highly recommend checking these movies out. My only main criticism on these movies is that the dubbing kinda sucks on it, but then again, such is the case with a lot of dubbed movies. I would recommend watching these in the native tongue and reading subtitles, but however way you prefer to do it, just watch these movies! They are worthwhile action films!

Martial arts action film in the vein of Bruce Lee. French film with sloppily dubbed English, but does that really matter? Lots of violent hand to hand combat and long foot chase scenes (jumping off roofs, etc.) The action sequences show that you don't have to have a ton of CGI to create a film with a lot of physical excitement. If the genre as described is your forte then go for it,

Besides packaging issues and Amazon delivering a loose and scratched disc, this is a good deal.

This came recommended (can't remember where from). Somewhere, there is an American version and its not the same at all.

Believe it or not the sequel is even better.

Definitely 'B' movies, but well worth your time and viewing pleasure. Good clean fun!

This movies are extremelly fun and entertaining to watch. I like a lot the
parkour action scenes and the fighting stunts. This is what action movies should be
like, not with some fancy classical music score in the background that distracts you from
the action ("Mm.. I wonder if it's a violin or a clarinet in the background, bom bom bom BOM!!
shazzz!! Oh crap, I missed the action just for thinking about that!!! -all the time-"), or the
usual machine made cloned action script that we see all the time in movies,
or with fancy CGI-Green/Blue Screen, that once again with the movie score, distracts you from
the action on the screen ("That DEFINITELY looks like CGI, and that definitely looks like the
actor(s) used a wire(s)"), or when you are looking at a cool fight scence and the cameras shift back and
forth quickly between angles, thus not allowing you to appreciate the fight scene as a whole,
as it is pretty common today in most Hollywood made movies.

I would highly recommend this 2 movies to anyone who likes FUN action
and fighting movies without much fancy stuff to them than a good fun plot and cool fighting/action scenes
with awesome real stunts.

I would also recommend Ong-Bak 1 & 2, The Protector (With Tony Jaa), since this movie reminds me a lot
of them. I first found this movies on the web in french,
I had to get the Blu-ray with the english dub since I'm not very fluent in french yet,
the dub is worth it if you don't speak french.

The only thing I didn't like was that part 2 seemed a little "short", and the lenguage was a little stupid
and senselessly obscene on the first part, other than that this are instant classics that anyone who
likes FUN action movies should own.

Yes, I do mean that: these are among the best action movies ever made -- but I'll qualify by adding "which involve humans doing athletic things", such as martial arts movies. (I like the other kinds too, BTW.)

But if you enjoy watching incredibly gifted athletes doing great stunts done in a very believable way, and don't mind preposterous plots, then these movies might tickle your fancy. Just being able to watch David Belle (said to be the founder of parkour/parcour) is worth the price in my opinion.

So remember, don't expect any Profound Commentary on the Human Condition (thank goodness). Don't get too hung up on the silliness or the stereotypes, that's part of the fun. Just relax and enjoy great escapist fun with a good companion or two.
