4.0 out of 5 stars Solid single, September 18, 2003
This review is from: District Sleeps Alone Tonight (Audio CD)
The Postal Service offers a new single from their album "Give Up," and it's worth every penny. While one of the remixes fails to live up to the original, the cover and other two songs are solid, enjoyable, and thoroughly pleasant to listen to.

"District Sleeps Tonight" is a pleasant, slightly melancholy song, ("You seem so out of context/ in this gaudy apartment complex") and the DJ Downfall Remix of that same song is a faster, poppier, longer, more danceable version, and unfortunately a little less engaging. The John Tejada Remix of "Such Great Heights" is pleasant and upbeat remix; the single is rounded off by a quirky percussion-led cover of the Flaming Lips' "Suddenly Everything Has Changed."

It's a pleasant weaving of rock, pop, electronica and what-have-you, with sweet lyrics and good music, like a bright-eyed cousin of Radiohead. Energetic and fun (with a bonus for Lips fans like myself), a good buy if you have four bucks on you.

If u like the Postal Service, this single is a must! The remixes are very unique, and they arent the usual cliche type of remix u would find on someone's single. This band has a unique feel to their music, and I hope they are around a long time.

The cover of the flaming lips song, "Suddenly everything has changed" is another gem to add to your collection.

This single is highly reccomended, and I also think their last single "Such Great Heights" was simply beautiful.

keep it goin:)

4.0 out of 5 stars Postal Service, The - The District Sleeps Alone Tonight, February 28, 2011
This review is from: District Sleeps Alone Tonight (Audio CD)
Indietronica? Sure, why not? Benjamin Gibbard's painfully earnest vocals over Jimmy Tamborello's slightly abstract electronic composition actually works well, although THE DISTRICT SLEEPS TONIGHT veers more towards pop than their collaboration on the Dntel album, even culminating in a near-danceable house beat. DJ Downfall starts his mix with a bass that verges on Euro-disco, but once the beat kicks in and the electronic flashes arrive fast and heavy, there's no question: Euro-disco. John Tejada comes through with a tech-house mix of "Such Great Heights" that, at times, cuts up Gibbard's vocals and, at others, puts them on center stage with electronic harmonizing. The b-side, "Suddenly Everything Has Changed," seems earnest, but is endearing nonetheless.

4.0 out of 5 stars Out of the 3, my least favorite..., December 22, 2006

I have loved the Postal Service since the first day I heard them. As for this single of their's, probably my least favorite. It has 2 remixes, the original, and lastly "Suddenly Everything Has Changed". I absolutely love the last song so for the Postal Service fan out there, all 3 singles are worth it, including this one. The 2 remixes I don't particularly care for, but considering the CD isn't too expensive, I believe it is worth getting if you like their other stuff! My preference of the 3 singles are (in order): "Such Great Heights", "We Will Become Silhouettes", and lastly this one. Hope you find what you're looking for though!

4.0 out of 5 stars I came for the extra song, stayed for the remix, March 20, 2006
This review is from: District Sleeps Alone Tonight (Audio CD)
When you buy a single of a song you already own on the actual cd, it's usually because there is an unreleased song on there, or something special. In this case, that's why I bought the cd. I was not disappointed, the song was excellent. The remix's of "The District Sleeps Alone Tonight" weren't that bad either.

Like the original song (which, at first, was a Give Up track I tended to skip past), the dj downfall remix grows on you. It's a good spin on the song and I like how the synth beat keeps building as the song progresses. The such great heights remix is reason enough to get this single, the creative bass/dancebeat are trully addictive.
