Biography

Long the bards of downward mobility, Southern Culture on the Skids have always embodied a sleazy, raucous, good-natured, good-time take on the culture of the South. Recently described by Dwight Yoakam (in Filter) as "really on the outside, like Dick Dale meets Hank Thompson," SCOTS have mixed high and low culture for decades, endlessly touring, serving up moonshine martinis and ... S.C.O.T.S. know how to have a good time. This one is chock full of gems to get ya up off yer ass and howlin' till the rooster crows. From the opening calls of Too Much Pork...to the dance hall favorites like "New Cooter Boogie", this is one to put a big smile on yer face. The gem on here is their remake of "Great Atomic Power"..a classic redone in the pyschobilly style pioneered by the band.

This is the band/sound that I have been looking for all my life!! If I had talent (I don't) and could play music (I can't) I would sound just like these guys! LOVE IT!

This music is so incredibly unique that there really is no way to describe it other than to say it rocks! Loved every song! I have the Dirt Track Date CD and have always enjoyed it as well! Highly recommended for those who like something a little different and funky!

A great CD priced well and arriving in a timely manner. The only thing that could have been better is if I could have gotten an autographed copy.

Sometimes the specific sound you seek is summed up spectacularly in say English psychedelica circa Nineteen Hundred and Such and Such and sometimes that self-same sound is summed up just as supersonically this side of the puddle and a little further south--Chapel Hill, North Carolina--by a more contemporary countrified trio like SCOTS, especially so it seems to me on their stupendous Ditch Diggin' album from Nineteen Hundred and Ninety Four. I've been grooving and shaking pretty much non-stop to this high-powered hootenanny and the following year's Dirt Track Date for well over a week now--albeit within the confines of my cubicle at work--and Lordy, Lordy am I ever Making Mayan a Hawaiian. Scots' jam twangly music and loony lyrics are a damn near irresistible combo of trippy surfer buzz with a rock solid side of fried chicken and gasoline. Impossible not to nod along to or at least keep your ears from flapping I mean toes from tapping or your teeth from gapping I mean fingers from rapping or your undies from snapping I mean hands from clapping. You get the picture.
