1.0 out of 5 stars This book should have been e-published
Dittohead's Guide to Adult Beverages was very boring and unentertaining! It seems as though it was written by an amateur. This book should have been e-published. The author's attempts at wit fall pretty flat. Don't waste your time or money on this.

I am still laughing! If you know anyone who is a fan of radio raconteur Rush Limbaugh, then this is the gift to buy him or her. Drawing on Rush's massively politically incorrect/leave no Liberal sacred cow un-skewered humor, author Britt Gillette presents 65 adult beverages. But, these are not just any old adult beverages, they are Limbaugh-esque adult beverages with names running from Alec (Baldwin)'s Bon Voyage Black and Tan through the Wife Training Walter (E. Williams).

Yeah, this is a great book! The author does a great job of capturing Rush's style and humor, and produces a really funny book. Any fan of Rush will immediate latch onto this book and get a great thrill out of it. I loved this book, and give it my highest recommendations.

Pull up a comfortable chair, pour yourself a Grape Gorbasm, and read this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Christmas comes early for Dittoheads this year!, November 20, 2005
This review is from: The Dittohead's Guide to Adult Beverages (Hardcover)
As a longtime dittohead, I think I can speak for most Rush Limbaugh fans when I say that The Dittohead's Guide To Adult Beverages is one funny book! If you love listening to Rush, then you'll go wild when you read this book. You'll find yourself combing through the pages trying to figure out which recipe you think is the funniest. With drinks like Halliburton's Dubya & Coke, Affirmative Action Ambrosia, Oprah's Whine, Jumpin' Jim Jeffords, and Evil Empire Eliminator, it's hard to pick which recipes are the most fun.

I'll be buying this book for every Rush Limbaugh fan I know this Christmas. This is the perfect coffee table book or ice breaker for cocktail parties. Rush should be proud!

5.0 out of 5 stars great for parties, December 1, 2005

I've never been a huge Rush Limbaugh fan, but I've always enjoyed a good dose of political humor, and Britt Gillette certainly delivers. For the rest of you out there who aren't up on all the Limbaugh lingo, Gillette offers a handy little glossary at the beginning of the book to get everyone on the same page. After that, he sounds off on outrageous liberal ideas and their purveyors. The best part is, the drinks can actually be mixed! This book cries out to be the centerpiece of a theme party, or at least a good conversation starter at a boring cocktail party: mix up a Pregnant Chad or an Affirmative Action Ambrosia and someone is bound to inquire about the name. This book is great fun cover to cover or in small doses--an excellent stocking stuffer!

5.0 out of 5 stars The ideal book for Rush Limbaugh listeners!, December 18, 2005
By
charleygirl (Somewhere, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Dittohead's Guide to Adult Beverages (Hardcover)
Despite what some other reviewers have stated (who obviously haven't read this book), The Dittohead's Guide to Adult Beverages is not a book about drinking or mixing actual cocktail recipes. The author simply uses the common Rush term 'adult beverage' (taken from the Limbaugh Lexicon) as a comical device to convey hilarious political humor. I mean, would you really mix up a Jumpin' Jim Jeffords? This is humor people!

Regardless of whether or not you listen to Rush Limbaugh, this is a ridiculously funny book. All you have to do is enjoy politics to get a kick out of it! But if you are a 'dittohead' (defined as some who loves The Rush Limbaugh Show), then you will be ecstatic over this book. It doubles as a definitive guide to the history of the show, with myriad references to things from the past such as Dan's Bake Sale, the Colorado spotted toad (which people licked to get high), Uglo-Americans, and former minority leader Tom 'Puff' Daschle.

Once you start reading this book it's difficult to put down. With recipes such as Ted 'The Swimmer' Kennedy's Boston Sour (also known as Sexual Harrassment On The Beach), Jesse Jackson's Gin & Juice, Moral Moderate Martini, Grape Gorbasm, Global Warming Cider, and French Martini On The Chiracs, you'll be arguing with yourself over which one is the funniest. (Personally, I prefer the Affirmative Action Ambrosia which requires the use of "dark rum in order to rectify the past injustice of rampant light rum preferences"!)

Everything about this book is humorous, from the unique drinking containers it requires to hilarious ingredients and funny instructions. Believe me, if you love Rush, this is the book for you! No doubt, this is headed for the bestseller list!

4.0 out of 5 stars A bar guide with an attitude and lots of laughs, November 25, 2005
This review is from: The Dittohead's Guide to Adult Beverages (Hardcover)
So, if you or someone you care about is looking for a humorous bar guide, this can fit the bill - provided they are a conservative. Britt Gillette starts things off with a glossary of terms that Rush uses on his show and dittoheads of any experience will know. There are then nine chapters of recipes for drinks that take a satirical twist on well known drinks. For example, the Fuzzy Navel NEA. You start with a coffee mug from the NEA, then a recipe is provided of the usual vodka, peach schnapps, orange juice, twist of orange peel. The joke here is that the parts of each are given in multiple parts with the guide being sure of the right proportions, plus a copy of "Heather Has Two Mommies" is required. The author also provides humorous instructions and notes on the origins of each drink with special notes.

Now, frankly, I am a non-drinker and don't have any direct use for these drink instructions. However, even non- drinkers can be called upon to mix drinks for friends at parties and this book can add some fun to the process - at least some conversation.

Face it, mixology is about fun and having a book like this can add to that process. For the right person, this can make a great gift.

5.0 out of 5 stars Knee-slapping Rush Limbaugh humor!, November 20, 2005
This review is from: The Dittohead's Guide to Adult Beverages (Hardcover)
For those who listen to The Rush Limbaugh Show, The Dittohead's Guide To Adult Beverages is an absolute treasure. Based on the common Limbaugh Lexicon term of "adult beverages," the book is a compilation of sixty-five actual adult beverage recipes with names that fans of the show will easily recognize. Recipes such as Environmentalist Wacko Whiskey, Grape Gorbasm, EIB Ecstasy Elixir, Rio Linda Rouser, and Global Warming Cider highlight a humor book that is the embodiment of the perfect Christmas gift for Rush Limbaugh fans.

The book's introduction showcases many of the more notable terms from the Limbaugh Lexicon so non-listeners can understand some of the book's references. The remainder of the book is divided into short chapters with names like 'Rush To Excellence,' 'Drink One For The Gipper,' and 'As American As An Apple Martini'. Each recipe has a set of hilarious instructions and footnotes certain to make you laugh out loud. The Dittohead's Guide To Adult Beverages is a clever idea for a book, and it doubles as a definitive guide to the history of The Rush Limbaugh Show.

Rush fans are guaranteed to love it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book!, November 23, 2005
This review is from: The Dittohead's Guide to Adult Beverages (Hardcover)
This book would be an excellent stocking stuffer for the rush fan or anyone else really. Britt clearly knows his rush lingo. Also is a good conversation piece or coffee table book - maybe an edition with a built in adult beverage coaster should be in the works?

5.0 out of 5 stars A Dittohead's Delight, November 19, 2005
This review is from: The Dittohead's Guide to Adult Beverages (Hardcover)
Every "Dittohead" should love this book. The author has really captured the flavor of the Rush Limbaugh Show with his humorous adult beverage titles and their accompanying comments. I broke into one laugh after another as I proceeded from one recipe to the next. I feel the book is quite unique in that it presents political commentary in such a humorous way.

Britt Gillette clearly has an encyclopedic knowledge of Rush Limbaugh's radio show and viewpoint, and he mixes that with a wide variety of alcoholic drinks to create this bartender's guide. Very enjoyable.
