A beautiful, moving soundtrack, Opera fans will love it.,

This review is from: Diva (1981 Film) (Audio CD)
Comedy, Romance and Murder. Vladimir Cosma's soundtrack to the quirky film Diva is inspirational. Originally the winner of the 1982 Cesar Award for Best Original Motion Picture Award, this is no "Titanic" soundtrack - it's far more than that. Wilhelmenia Wiggins Fernandez's operatic singing on the theme, La Wally, are beautiful beyond words. Her voice is crystal clear, and the despair and beauty of the piece is brought home.Vladimir Cosma plays the the piano solo for Sentimental Journey, a Debussyesque piece of music. Quirly tracks, like the Zen are of Bread and Butter offset the beauty and seriousness, and add humour to the score. This is a truly beautiful score. A must for Opera fans, and musics fans alike. Neither grand nor pretentious, the score will compliment any music fan's CD collection. Only criticism is the length of the soundtrack - it's a short CD with a running time of around thirty six and a half minutes.

Film noire goes to the opera--what a kick!!,

This review is from: Diva (1981 Film) (Audio CD)
I loved this soundtrack. The movie is a "keep you on the edge of your seat" French thriller that is true to its origins from the Delacorta novel. The music, and oh what music, captures the protagonist's love of opera, which he in turn tries to capture by smuggling in his homemade, but mighty powerful, recording devices to historic opera performances. Hard to believe that a futuristic, slick somewhat violent plot could mesh with such music, but it does.

The musical variety on this recording flows between classical, opera, new age, jazz and rock....in other words, this soundtrack skillfully transcends classifications and boudaries.

Electic music that pleases,

Having seen the movie and enjoyed the electic selection of music it presents I wanted the audio CD to enjoy as well. The most stunning aspect of the film to me were the renditions of the beautiful aria from the opera "La Wally" which is woven throughout the whole film. The vocals are stunning but the intrumental version on cello and piano also stands well alone. The other "non classical" selections, some with electronic syntheiszer, are varied and make this a truely eclectic collection of music.
