By Grady Harp (Los Angeles, CA United States) - See all my reviews (HALL OF FAME REVIEWER) (VINE VOICE) (TOP 50 REVIEWER) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Diva (Audio CD)
For most opera lovers Danielle de Niese needs no introduction but because none is listed with this album, a brief history of this sensation new star is merited: lyric soprano Danielle de Niese was born of Sri Lankan parents in Melbourne, Australia in 1979, made her operatic debut with the Los Angeles Opera at age 15, debuted with the Metropolitan Opera in 1998 at age 19 and has since become a glowing light in the world of classical music. A specialist in Mozart and Handel this album reveals a broad spectrum of her gifts. The works included on this recording are a follows: Lucrezia - Handel (adapted/arranged Morgan Pochin) with the London Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by James Morgan Lascia Ch'Io Piangia from Rinaldo - Handel with Les Arts Florissants, conducted by William Christie Exsultate, Jubilate - a world premiere recording by Karl Jenkins with the London Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by James Morgan Pace Non Trovo - Marcello (adapted/arranged Morgan Pochin) with the London Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by James Morgan Da Tempeste and Piangero La Sorte Mia- from Handel's Giulio Cesare with Les Arts Florissants conducted by William Christie Exsultate, Jubilate and Alleluia - by Mozart with Sir Charles Mackerras and the Orchestra Of The Age Of Enlightenment Là Ci Darem La Mano (with Bryn Terfel) and Ah! Fuggi Il Traditor - from Don Giovanni by Mozart Sir Charles Mackerras, Orchestra Of The Age Of Enlightenment Myself I Shall Adore and Endless Pleasure - from Semele by Handel with Les Arts Florissants conducted by William Christie And in some cases there is a video included from L'incoronazione di Poppea, Act 3: "Pur ti miro, pur ti godo" with Danielle de Niese, Emmanuelle Haim, Alice Coote & Orchestra Of The Age Of Enlightenment de Niese is a charmer in every way - stage presence, glorious soaring vocalizing, and sensitivity to each piece she sings. This album is available in Europe at present and since Amazon is advertising it now, it surely will become available soon here. It is a wholly satisfying experience. Grady Harp, December 11
