From Publishers Weekly

Long-time best friends Jordan, Dakota and Chrasey are three New York African-American career women in their 30s who appear to have it all, but don't: Jordan struggles to balance her law career and her marriage, much to her husband Omar's displeasure; Dakota wants to settle down with Tony, but the bad boy music executive may not feel the same way about her; and Chrasey, overweight and ignored by husband Keith, is attracted to Trevor, the younger man she meets at a bus stop-who then shows up at same club where she and her girlfriends are partying. Morris, making her debut, sets things up nicely, but delivers a tale that's less diary than desultory, and isn't even in the first person. Too often, an intriguing scene concludes with a paraphrase, or begins with a rote set of character descriptions. All three primary male love interests are cheaters, all three women cheat on the men they love (more than once with the attendant complications for women). The result is more melodrama than drama.

From Booklist

Reminiscent of Waiting to Exhale, this novel features three women, Jordan, Chrasey, and Dakota, who have been friends for many years. Jordan is a successful attorney struggling to balance work and family. Chrasey is married to Keith, her first and only partner, and Dakota is the single publicist not looking for a serious commitment and not trying to make one. Jordan's world begins to fall apart when her husband of six years, Omar, insists that she spend more time at home with their son and demands that she end her friendship with male friend Jayon. Chrasey's life becomes complicated when she begins an affair with Trevor, a younger man who shows the kind of interest her husband no longer does. Dakota's lifestyle changes when she becomes pregnant by former NFL player Tony, who is unwilling to make a commitment. Through all of their personal trials, the women are always supportive and honest with one another. They each discover the error of their ways and are forced to reevaluate their lives, partners, and futures. Lillian Lewis

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing Attempt, March 31, 2007
This review is from: Diva Diaries (Paperback)
Sucked in by the byline on the book cover, I recently picked this up from the library...thank God I didn't pay to read this! Although I am an avid reader, I could not bring myself to finish this book...and I tried several times. LOL. The storyline could have been good IF it had been developed. As mentioned by another reviewer, the chapters were too short and often seemed pointless. I also got irritated by the author's constant plugs of her own radio stations (she's a Music Coordinator for such stations as Hot 97 and 98.7 KISS FM)...yes, it is advised to write about "what you know," but it got a little ridiculous at times. Overall, this author did a poor job of imitating well-written multi-character narratives such as Waiting to Exhale or The Dirty Girls Social Club.

1.0 out of 5 stars Too long!!, September 24, 2009
This review is from: Diva Diaries (Paperback)
Whew! I thought this book would never end!!! It just kept going, and going and going. I agree with other reviews - too much information was repeated. I did finish the book but would not suggest this book for anyone. The book could have been completed in half the number of pages.

1.0 out of 5 stars Unhappy reader, February 7, 2009
This review is from: Diva Diaries (Paperback)
This book could have been better. The story went on and on, and I sware she repeat things from previous chapter. At one point, while I was reading a new chapter I thought I was reading a previous chapter. The author kept switching from third perosn to first person. I was so confuse. When speaking about Dakota the author would repeat things about her character over and over again. Dakota and chrasey had a job, and although their job title was mentioned, I still dont know what their work entailed. I managed to finish the book my skipping pages and just scanning a few words, but I didn't like the ending of the story. It's like leaving the readers unhappy about the hope of the characters.
