All too often the reaction to Candye Kane is about her past. Peopl are interested in her adult entertainment background in films and as a stripper instead of her current musical talent. Don't make that mistake. Her past is behind her and what we have is an incredibly talents songstress and entertainer.

This album is the best showcase of her talent and ability. The songs go from anthems such as the title track to a country song with Big Sandy, a unique version of Nancy Sinatra's Boots Were Made For Walking, to a bawdy song about things that taste good. . .

There is such a variety of different sounds and moods on this album. If you don't like one song, skip to the next track where you'll hear something different. What isn't different is an incredible voice that must be listened to. The same is true with her live show. You won't be able to take your eyes off of her and you won't want to.

More importantly, Candye's music expresses very important messages of self-esteem and pride in who you are. Fundamentalist Christians won't care for her message, but for the rest of us, she's a breath of fresh air.

Another highlight of this album and many of her other CD's are the supporting performances by other musicians. Dave Alvin, Sue Palmer, Big Sandy and plenty of other talented musicians are showcased.

4.0 out of 5 stars A talented singer with a very personal no-holds barred style, October 9, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Diva La Grande (Audio CD)
This allbum will appeal to fans of Dave Alvin, Kim Wilson and Dwight Yoakam. Alvin actually produced it and plays on it. It contains a variety of styles including Western swing, jump blues and rock. It's `American music' in the Dave Alvin sense of the term - but in Kane's own unique style.

And what a style. Candye Kane has a big, full, beautifully expressive voice that conveys her personality, attitude and sense of humour. Her choice of material is quirky and interesting. She is backed by first-rate musicians (including Alvin on some tracks notably his guitar work on The Lord Was a Woman).

On hearing Diva, you get the feeling that you are listening to a great talent who will soon be much better known than she is now - or at least ought to be.

5.0 out of 5 stars Candye's Musical Buffet, And It's All You Can Eat!, April 3, 2001
This review is from: Diva La Grande (Audio CD)
One of the artists I stumbled upon on a road trip in Austin, was Candye Kane. Candye Kane is a Big beautiful woman who is not afriad of her size, in fact she is proud of it. Adding to her proud personality is her STYLE of music. A mixture of country, bluegrass, gospel and blues is unique and refreshing. She is a little bit of everything, and I like that in a artist. Candye shows she is not ashamed of her bisexuality in a track entitled "I'm In Love With A Girl", while bringing the crowd to their feet with the stellar piano filled and shanty jumping track entitled "You Need A Great Big Woman". Candye sings the painfully emotional "It Should Be Raining" while tears rain form in my eyes. Fun, sassy brazen and bold and sometime serious Candye Kane makes a great album and fun time for all, including me.

...you need Candye's Diva La Grande! I've never heard a more uplifting and inspiring song than "Love 'Em & Forgive 'Em". This CD is an anti-depressant without negative side-effects. The songs become so much more meaningful through Candye's powerful voice and her positive outgoing personality.
