Landmark 1982 French thriller sports ambient, lovely score,

Well, since Amazon has not supplied a photo, I can only assume I'm reviewing the right score. Anyone searching for Erik Satie loveliness will be hard-pressed to find a more enticing cut than "Promenade Sentimentale" by Vladimir Kosma, and Higgins-Fernandez' version of Catalini's "La Wally" may not be No. 1 on opera purists' lists, but it's fine for this film, and a standout on CD. The rest is hi-quality ambient soundscapes, a departure for this French composer of frothy film melodies, and "Gorodish" and "Ground Swell" are about as psychedelic and moderne as anything on the old 4AD or the catalogue of Fripp and Sylvan. Once again, the piano theme is timeless, and worth the price of admission.

Not happy!,

One of quite a few cd's I've purchased over the last few months from Amazon (who, apart from an ordered book that arrived with the last however many pages missing! are usually pretty good), this one failed to please. Not the actual music, mind you, but the quality of the cd, the fact that some of the pieces end very abruptly (smacking of a bad home recording)and the jacket was a mere card wrap-around rather than a proper, protective case. Disappointing!

subtle, sweet and rare,

I recomend if you love the film search out and find the re-issue quickly. Published and printed in the Netherlands (not Japan as some note) your collection will be forever grateful. As soundtracks go there are few that are so enjoyable from track 1 to whatever. Even the additional material is perfect as an aural match from the film (outakes). The sound re-master is superior by far from the original and the packaging slick. All in french of course.
One of the Coolest movies ever made. One of the most romantic and sublime soundtracks ever recorded.
