This is a delightful novel first published in the Eighteenth Century and suppressed as being too risque. The story has an Oriental setting for the adventures of a young man reincarnated as a sofa. Shameless memoirs of women of pleasure, games of love played by courtesans at one of the most corrupt and dissolute courts of the past. It was not the choice of lover that was of importance, but the manner of loving---this was the belief of Crebillon Fils, the richly experienced sensualist who wrote this book.
