5.0 out of 5 stars terrific, topical, tuneful (and boy, can she sing!)
this live album captures ms. west's unique blend of humorous insight and diva-quality musicality. the lyrics are always right on target, and her wit goes beyond the merely clever to the thought-provoking. whether she's lamenting the vagaries of modern medical practice (toe to toe with the hmo), recalling an unrequited love (root canal of the heart), or poking...

1.0 out of 5 stars Christine Lavin Wannabe
Sure, some of the songs are kinda funny, but when there's no subtlety, a la Christine Lavin or Cali Rose, the whole thing gets as tedious as a bad sketch on "Saturday Night Live" that you wish would've been edited.

Keep trying, Camelle, and perhaps you should listen to more of the high comedy of Stan Freberg or Tom Lehrer--now THEY can provide humor with...

this live album captures ms. west's unique blend of humorous insight and diva-quality musicality. the lyrics are always right on target, and her wit goes beyond the merely clever to the thought-provoking. whether she's lamenting the vagaries of modern medical practice (toe to toe with the hmo), recalling an unrequited love (root canal of the heart), or poking uproarious fun at everyone from new age believers to those more conventionally inclined (getting raptured 2000), these songs are not only slice-of-life commentaries but great music. "diva's day off" should please everyone from fans of christine lavin and tom lehrer to those who are looking to branch out from a steady diet of acoustic folk music. not for the humor-impaired.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant, topical songstress, February 18, 2000

In the field of comedic music, West is up there on my list with Tom Lehrer, Cheryl Wheeler, and the other greats. Her perfect timing shines through on this live album, and songs like the Viagra song are gems. If you like intelligent, well written humor that doesn't rely on foul language for all its jokes, then you'll appreciate West's album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastically Funny!, February 15, 2002

This is my all time favorite CD! It is just hysterical!
Probably not music you want to play around your younger children however. Some of the humor is a bit raunchy. Buy this and put yourself in a good mood!

4.0 out of 5 stars great!, February 15, 2001

She's hysterical. I kind of stumbled upon the Bitchin' Babes on a family recommendation and from there became a fan of Camille West's. Camille West is truly one of the funniest singer/songwriters (and great performers) I've had the pleasure to listen to. (When she performed "Viagra" at my college, she brought the house down.) And all my friends who I've made listen to "Diva's Day Off" love her as much as I do.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hysterical, August 14, 2000

Absolutely hysterical CD that captures all the fun of seeing Camille live. She applies her incredible wit to a variety of topics, many of which we've had some personal experience - who hasn't wanted to "go postal" on their HMO? Her kids must think she's either the coolest or most embarassing mom on the planet - my vote goes for coolest. Buy this & get ready to laugh all the way through.
