4.0 out of 5 stars Page Turner, March 31, 2009
This review is from: Divas of Dutchess: A Novel (Paperback)
This book offers something for all ages. The book is well written; it holds your interest from beginning to end. It depicts family, friendships, and love. It takes you through day in and day out drama filled with the ultimate unexpected. References on classic R&B music as well as hip-hop will spark a nostalgic bone in any generation. It will have you laughing out loud on your ride to and from work. I truly enjoyed this book. For a first time authoress, I think Erica-Faye Nicole Williams has it going on! Looking for great things in her future.

4.0 out of 5 stars Circus Fun, May 15, 2011
This review is from: Divas of Dutchess: A Novel (Paperback)
"Divas of Dutchess" is about a girl named Jaliyah and starts off telling about her family, how she grew up and how they came to live in upstate NY, Mount Vernon. Jaliyah is in need of some extra money, so she applies for a job at a clothing store, DIVAS, and gets the job. DIVAS has a reputation for being an easy spot to boost merchandise. Will DIVAS become a reputable store? What will become of Jaliyah?

Jaliyah's family is just as comical as the people she works with - Carmen, the manager; a cross dressing thief named Jameka; and let's not forget all the people she meets along the way.

Erica-Faye Nicole Williams' "Divas of Dutchess" is a fun filled book written for young adults and adults alike. It is very well written.

4.0 out of 5 stars Love and Life, October 12, 2009

This review is from: Divas of Dutchess: A Novel (Paperback)
Twenty-one year old Jaliyah Whitfield is armed with a sharp tongue and blessed with beauty. Born into a long line of policemen, she can handle herself in any situation. In the quest for a better job to make the payments on her new car and wipe out her credit card debt, she applies for a position at DIVAS, a clothing store catering to the hip-hop crowd. Let the entertainment begin!!!

Everyday at DIVAS is a circus, where the co-workers raise drama to a whole new level. Carmen, the manager, mentally zones in and out; and she's intimately involved with almost everyone that works with her. Janet and Jacqueline, the queens of backstabbing, are Carmen's partners in crime and lapdogs. And to add more excitement to her days, Jaliyah has confrontations with the store's favorite "five finger discount" patron, Jameka, a cross-dressing thief. Home life for Jaliyah is just as exciting. Her loving, lively, and nosey family members are loads of fun. First-time dates must be approved by the entire family; parents, siblings, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Will she ever find love if her family disapproves of everyone she brings home?

DIVAS OF DUTCHESS is slap-sticking funny. The personality of each character is portrayed with realism and brilliance. I laughed numerous times at the Whitfield family because I can relate to them and the monkey business going on in DIVAS OF DUTCHESS left me speechless. A funny, breath of fresh air, DIVAS OF DUTCHESS will appeal to young adults as well as adults.
