A perfect pop CD,
By
This review is from: Dive in (Audio CD)
If you're an American who's somehow managed to come across Darius, lucky for you. He produces melodic pop that is so difficult to find in the rap and R&B infested pop scene in America these days. A little background on our singer - he's Persian but grew up in Scotland. As a contestant on the UK's first Popstars TV show in 2001, he became a national laughingstock with his ponytailed rendition of "... Baby One More Time". Undaunted, he tried out for the other reality TV music program, "Pop Idol", and finished third behind Will Young and Gareth Gates in the spring of 2002. He released his first solo single last August and got the last laugh, as "Colourblind" debuted at #1 in the UK. That track leads off this collection and it's a remarkably well-written and well-sung pop song. The chorus soars and the color motif of the lyric line is original and touching. (It was my favorite single of 2002.) He followed that up with "Rushes", another winner, in December, and then this CD was released the following week. What I like best about it is how consistently good it is. Every song could be a single. I found that the 12 melodies stuck in my brain on just a few listens - always a good sign. He runs the gamut from simple, pretty ballads to fun uptempo songs and sings them all in a warm tenor voice. If you're a fan of Brit pop, or just good solid melodic pop music, then take a chance on this. You won't be disappointed. The CD features a hidden bonus track, an acoustic version of the pretty ballad "Gotta Know Tonight", as track #69. From this we can discern that Darius has a sense of humor as well, although it is a bit annoying to wade through 57 blank tracks of about four seconds each to reach the bonus cut.

I stumbled upon this CD while on Vacation in Las Vegas, it was under the import section and thought I would give it a listien. WOW! Not having seen any of the original British versions of the Idol series I was quite impressed. Colourblind caught my ear and soon I was listiening to the entire album. It's a great CD that you will want to listien to over and over.

Oh Darius! I have just one word to sum up this sexy Glaswegian INCREDIBLE! If you come across this review please do not hesitate to buy this album as it is excellent. Darius has totally redeemed himself from the highly embarassing display on the first series of Popstars to being a bona fide solo artist. I can't recommend this album highly enough and if he is ever on tour in your area you must go and see him. I went and believe me he looks and sounds much better in the flesh. Especially when he wears his leather kilt!!!!!!!!!

When i first heard Darius' song "incredible" I was instantly attracted. I never heard his other two songs released on singles all the way through, so I couldn't get a feel for it. Then when I heard "Incredible" I wanted to hear more, I never watched pop idol so I never knew how talented he was. I bought his CD and loved it, his song have brillant lyrics, good sound and a great voice. What more could you ask for.

He was a bit of a joke on the orginal Pop Stars show, but over the last couple of years he's proved himself to be a capable artist and this first album is a credit to him.

I'm not big into pop music, but this CD really hit a note with me. I had never heard of Darius until I was searching for a song one day and his songs came up. This is the only album I own by him but I'm happy to have it apart of my collection. Like another user said, if you are lucky enough to have heard this album in the USA then you have experienced a real treat.

I heard Colourblind on the radio in Europe last summer and purchased the CD prior to coming back. I've enjoyed the entire CD thoroughly. The lyrics are great and music really moves me. The CD has become one of my favorites and I find myself humming not just one of the songs from the collection, but many different ones. Darius is quite an entertainer and I hope he finds his way to the States soon.

Better Than Will Young!,

Alright, I found out about Pop Idol not by the winner (Will Young), but by Gareth Gates. Then I found out about Darius! I think someone ... up, because Darius is way better than Will and his debut album proves this. From my favorites, "I'm Not Buying", "Sliding Doors", and "Simple Like The Truth", this album shines. The import price of this album is nothing compared to the countless hours of sheer joy you will encounter with "Dive In". This album really is awesome.

Light-Hearted Goodness,

This CD is wonderful. The songs on it are fresh, fun, sweet and light. It is not heavy and it is not a 'thinker's' kind of CD, which is why I am drawn to Darius' music. I normally listen to alternative and new rock music but a little bit of pop can be good for the soul and, in the end, Darius' songs leave me feeling content.
