3.0 out of 5 stars Hmmm...
Reading everyone else's reviews here, I was expecting big things from this book. Sadly, I don't think I can agree with most of what's said.

First of all, this book really should have been a Megamorphs (replacing Back to Before). {{SPOILERS)) It felt just a bit weird that Tobias, the boy effectively sans famille, should document the Animorphs' revelation to their own...

In The Diversion the war gets a little more complicated. It seems the Yeerks are catching on to the Animorphs. They no longer think the Animorphs are Andalites. The Sharing is sponsoring a blood drive and Controllers have recently robbed the garden of animal DNA. Not just any animal DNA but the DNA of tigers, wolves, elephants, and were very upset when they couldn't find any DNA from a red-tailed hawk. When the Animorphs try to mess up their plan they actually make things worse. But in the process Tobias finds someone he hasn't seen in a very long time. The only problem is that the Yeerks found her, too. This was one of the bests Animorphs books since K.A. started using ghostwriters, and it was longer than previous the previous books. I found myself turning each page with the old excitement I used to have when reading Animorphs. So all you Animorphs veterans should come out of retirement before it's too late and read this one. Trust me, it's worth it.

No words can describe this book...It is amazing, the best yet. From the beginning the action never let's up. It's one crazy turn after another. With many crazy twists and turns, the book plunges you into the emotions of not just one Animorph, but all of them. By the time you finish this book you will be waiting for the next one. With one crazy development after another, this book delivers many action packed scenes. Have fun...

5.0 out of 5 stars Animorphs #49: The Diversion : A must read...., December 17, 2000
With the Yeerks' power escalating and the war between the Animorphs and the Yeerks gets tougher then before, things are getting drastic for both sides. Tobias is forced to witness his friends suffer like he once did, and will do anything he can to save them. But a mysterious love from his past has just entered the scene. Tobias knows that the concept of love can't intermix with war right now as the Animorphs try to save everything they've ever known, but this person has a place deep down in Tobias's heart. Can the Animorphs save themseves -- and the ones they love -- before destruction occurs at an extraordinary pace ?

5.0 out of 5 stars The secret is out - and now everything's changed...., December 30, 2000
Ever since the war with the Yeerks began to heat up, things have gotten really close for the Animorphs - but they've always managed, just barely, to survive, and to keep their identities a secret. But now it seems as if the Yeerks have finally discovered that the "Andalite bandits" are really a group of humans. This new discovery puts the resistance, and the future of Earth, at risk. The Animorphs must protect themselves and their families at all costs. But to do that, they've got to do the unthinkable - reveal their secret. And along the way, Tobias will make a discovery that changes everything. This was the best of all of the recent Animorphs books - I can't even think of one in recent memory that tops it. It had drama, humor, sadness, and emotional depth all in one. It made me laugh and cry at the same time. If you're an Animorphs fan, you MUST read The Diversion.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book - Only a few flaws, March 29, 2002
By A Customer
I think this book is one of the best Tobias books, but it seems so abrupt when he meets his mother. It's almost like Tobias says, "Hi, I'm your son." Then it's as if his mother says, "Oh. Okay then. I knew that." I don't really like that part. Otherwise, it's pretty good. There are good Rachel and Tobias parts, an appropriate amount of action, and a great deal of emotion.

5.0 out of 5 stars "They Know We're Human.", March 22, 2002

Yep,that right. The Yeerks are finally begining to think that maybe the 'Andalite Bandits' aren't Andalites at all, maybe they're human. So they have figure out how to tesst them, DNA.Because every time when the Animorphs are in battle, they lose some blood. So if the Yeerks test it they will find DNA strands of every animal the have acquired, and their actual human DNA.They will know who they are, infact the Yeerk computer has already found a match. The Animorphs try to break in and destroy the computer, but they're stopped. But before they leave they see the one match on the computer, its somebody by the name of Loren, Tobias' mother......Tobias is shocked, everyone has always told him his mother is dead,He has to see her and he wants to save her,Jake doesn't really like that idea,He thinks she could be a Yeerk. So Tobias,Marco and Ax will watch her house for 3 days, and if she doesn't go to the Yeerk pool during that time they will know if she safe, but by then so will the Yeerks....But the computer is still going, and soon the other Animorphs' family members will turn up as matches too........

This is definatley one of the best, and one of my favorites!!!!!I loved the story, its a classic Animorph book...This one, like most Animorphs, really get you into the story, you feel like your really morphing, really in the battle, and really feeling the emoitions and thinking the thoughts....I strongly recomend this book,it Incredible!!!!!!!!

A Kid's Review
This Animorphs book was a great one. It is EXTREMELY important that you read this one. If you are a reader that skips around in the series, you will be kicking yourself if this is one you missed. It was definatly one of the most important books yet (i haven't read the ones after it yet, but so far, this one is imporant). I'm not going to tell you what happens, but trust me, this is one you have to get!

3.0 out of 5 stars Hmmm..., February 11, 2001
By
"innle" (NSW, Australia) - See all my reviews
Reading everyone else's reviews here, I was expecting big things from this book. Sadly, I don't think I can agree with most of what's said.

First of all, this book really should have been a Megamorphs (replacing Back to Before). {{SPOILERS)) It felt just a bit weird that Tobias, the boy effectively sans famille, should document the Animorphs' revelation to their own families and relocation to the Hork-Bajir valley. To really deal with such an important moment in the series, we should have been able to see how each character deals, emotionally and physically, with the situation, from the 'inside' as it were. Tobias can't even physically express his feelings anymore, so can he really convey the private emotions of others?

Megamorphs status would also have lengthened this installment, which is desperately needed. Its lack of length results in the sense that it's very 'noisy': there are two extensive action/chase sequences that dominate the novel, diminishing the effect of Tobias' poignant reunion with his mother, Loren. Thus, what should have had me bawling my eyes out just made me feel sad, because all the running and fighting ended up taking over. More chapters would have allowed the emotional intensity to mature.

However, there were some good Rachel-and-Tobias moments, and one of my favourite recent lines: "As long as I've got fast food, I'll be OK." (I think, I loaned my copy to a friend). The premise was good, although a little melodramatic - ("Oh, look, here's my long lost mum, but, oops! she's got amnesia, she's horribly scarred and blind. But that's OK, because I'm a freak too, and she seems to be an all-around nice person.") The Jake stuff is excellent, too: I'll be following that thread *very* closely indeed...

One major beef: it's as though #48 never happened. We don't find out what Rachel did at the end with David, and there's no change in her behaviour or her relationship with Tobias. (Why, hello Continuity! Oh my God, you look like you've spent the last two months sleeping in a Dumpster! What, you have?!? Poor thing, come in and have a shower') (TM Sars, MBTV.)

5.0 out of 5 stars Big trouble for the Animorphs, March 13, 2001
By
Things are really getting bad for the Animorphs--nothing will ever be the same for them again. I loved this book, and it COULDN'T have been a Megamorphs. In the Megamorphs books, interesting things happen, like the Time Matrix, the Veleek, and going back to the time of dinosaurs, but nothing happens that changes the Animorphs' whole world completely, so that they can never go back to the way things were. Those kinds of changes have to be saved for the regular Animorphs books.

This book is a real turning point. It's hitting the fan, and it's just going to get worse from now on.

This happily lived up to my expectations of what I wanted from this book. Cute and slightly emo in classic Tobias style.
