5.0 out of 5 stars The Lion-Hearted Author, February 11, 2000

This review is from: The Diversity Advantage : A Guide to Making Diversity Work (Hardcover)
This book represents a conversational approach to sharing critical information. Common sense steps to digging into our head regarding the value of tolerance and inclusiveness. I had the feeling of "being there" in a true teaching session. The analogy of The Wizard of OZ was delightful. The exercises are thought out and well organized. Thank you for providing steps on "how to make a difference"!

This review is from: The Diversity Advantage : A Guide to Making Diversity Work (Hardcover)
A short and concise guide to learning about the diversity that makes the United States the richest country in the world in more ways than monetarily. The excercises help to learn about diversity. Enjoyed the chance to read it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A practical easy-to-read guide, January 8, 1999

This review is from: The Diversity Advantage : A Guide to Making Diversity Work (Hardcover)
Many books have been written on diversity, but this one goes beyond theories and analyses and provides useful directions on how to contribute to and benefit from diverse work places and social environments. The book is enriched by the the author's personal anecdotes. And an added benefit is the "workbook" format. Following most chapters, readers are encouraged to examine, write-in and apply personal learnings. The Diversity Advantage will be a valuable resource for anyone who is looking for understanding and skills to more effectively relate to others.

4.0 out of 5 stars Delightful Wizard of Oz analogy, September 5, 2002

This review is from: The Diversity Advantage : A Guide to Making Diversity Work (Hardcover)
Each chapter begins with a question: "What is diversity in the workplace?", "How do I begin to improve my understanding of people different from me?", "In today's environment of political correctness, it's too difficult to know what to do. Isn't it easier just to treat everybody the same?" After every heartened answer, she ends the chapter with practical tips.

I recommend this to everyone migrating or moving into North America.

5.0 out of 5 stars For people who are still wondering, What is Diversity?, May 8, 1999

This review is from: The Diversity Advantage : A Guide to Making Diversity Work (Hardcover)
Billings-Harris book is wonderful. Although it has nothing to do with the quality of the content, I love the cover. I was attracted to the book by the colors and design-it looks like a book about diversity! I like the format questions that I've thought about and haven't been sure of the answers are there. I also like the interactive nature of the format. It is provocative and encourages you to be involved, to think, to act. But it's not too pat, too smooth, or too smarmy. And it's short and to the point. It's good.

Lenora is an innovative and creative author and expert. With the help of her book I learned more and discovered that my approach was on target and just needed more definition. She provided the meat and substance. As we face the year 2000 and the nation's demographics continue to change, Lenora's observations and resolutions will become more a part of our solution set. If you are truly interested and want unique skill sets, just ready this book. Ronald E. Carrington President Media Consultants Global, Inc. Richmond, Va.
