For several years I have been looking for a simple text to use with students to examine issues of diversity. This is it! Bucher presents in 7 short chapters an overview that includes a broad range of issues, balanced theory with practical application, useful and challenging activities. I plan to use this not only with my sociology students but also with human resource personnel who are trying to be more effective managers of diversity. Good work!

This book was mandatory reading for a diversity class that I just finished and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it! Especially helpful were the opportunities to personally reflect on the sidebar questions, which the reader can use to journal and explore their journey as they become more aware and accepting of diversity. Dr. Bucher (and his wife Pat) have written an thoughful book that provides readers with the tools they need to become more open-minded of differences, whether it be race, gender, religion, sexuality--the book touches a variety of aspects. I would recomment this book to anyone!

Richard Bucher has hit the proverbial nail on the head with this insightful, down-to-earth text. I am a humanities professor in a small junior college, where students have little chance to experience more than minimal diversity. This somewhat cloistered environment is a perfect spot for the wisdom and practicality of "Diversity Consciousness." The contents introduce, through case studies, team activities, and individual exercises, concepts of racism, discrimination, ethnocentrism, and other population characteristics capable of damaging personal as well as international relationships. Bucher's careful and logical exploration of the opportunities presented by a diverse culture are more than welcome in my classroom, any time!

This book was assigned by my Professor for an honors course. His goal is to open our minds to understanding ourselves and people around us better; to see how we may ourselves be discriminatory or prejudice without realizing it. We have nearly finished the book and I can already say it does assist with helping someone see through a different set of eyes and to better understand ourselves and those around us in the process. Also, I needed this book quickly because mine was inadvertantly taken & I had a test in a matter of days. As promised, the book arrived overnight and even though it was a used booked, the quality was very good.

This book came in wonderful condition. It was an excellent read, and above all inexpensive. Near 100 dollars in my school book store, so at this perfect price, I could not resist. I will always look on amazon for books form now on!

Good book for helping to understand the world we live in today which is becoming more and more global in business and simply in society. We are faced with interacting with people from around the world in our own cities, big and small. This book helps take a look at some of the reasons for and need for diversity consciousness.

I've been using this text for three years now for a graduate-level course for teachers. Every year my teachers let me know how much they enjoy the book and what a difference the course has made in their ability to relate to diverse populations. Thanks, Dr. Bucher for a great book.
