Divide and Conquer,

This CD is by far the best yet for Danni Leigh. Each track completely captures your attention and leaves you wanting more tradional country music to be played on the radio!

Danni Leigh is one of the most talented (and underrated) singers in Nashville. I have been a HUGE fan for a LONG time. Her voice is so gritty and real, but I have to admit she is sometimes drowned out by the abundant steel guitar on this CD. The CD kicks off with "He Used to Say That to Me", a warning to the 'new woman' about a man whose intentions are less than true. The upbeat "Somebody Ought to Do Somethin" features some organ woven throughout and Danni adds a twist by using her own name in the song. "A Far Cry From Here" is a great folk song, reminiscent of vintage Joni Mitchell. "Don't Feel Like Cryin'" is probably the most 'radio friendly' song on the CD, some funky mandolin peps it up and it is very upbeat and catchy - Leigh sings 'hey here comes that rainy day again, but hey look at me, don't feel like cryin'. My personal favorite song is "House of Pain" - it is about a love gone wrong and the lonliness that haunts one of the lovers. The title track of the CD features some really hot guitar and Leigh's voice is velvety. "Last Train to San Antone" is a great 'getting away to Texas' song, a lot like Jill Jack's "Austin". Divide and Conquer is another awesome CD by Danni Leigh - pick it up if you want to hear some real tear-in-your-beer country!!

A different kind of Danni Leigh,
By Robert K. Furrer "Swissboy" (Sempach, Switzerland) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Divide & Conquer (Audio CD)
If you liked those first two cds by Danni Leigh, you may not necessarily like this one. It does not have the same drive that the other records have. That's why I only give this record 3 stars. However, if you like ballads, this one has them, more than the others. At any rate, her great sensuous voice comes across nicely here.
