High on Mount Sinai, Moses received detailed instructions from God on exactly how to build the Tabernacle and exactly how priests should be attired to go before the Lord.
The Breastplate of Judgment described to Moses was to be passed down, generation after generation to all priests, beginning with Aaron.
The Breastplate contained twelve stones, each representing one of the twelve tribes of Israel. Through the years, an enlivening debate continues on the exact identity of these stones and their symbolic significance. What many overlooked were the mysterious objects laying just behind the breastplate, the Urim and Thummim. These powerful objects were a direct path to communication with the Creator and according to most interpretations, were to be used solely at the discretion of a priest.
With brilliant scholarship, Kaehr guides readers through Biblical passages discussing theories on the Urim and Thummim and all other forms of divination mentioned in the Bible. She points out the difference between Urim and Thummim and other oracles used in Biblical times, which were eventually banned or deemed evil by the time of the New Testament.
After pointing out the vague description of Urim and Thummim in both the Bible and ancient Hebrew texts, Kaehr concludes something is missing and takes readers on a journey around the globe to find the source of this ancient information, looking in some very surprising places.
A historical account of some of the worldâs most beloved oracles is explored so the reader can easily understand the origins of manâs attempts at divine communication while learning fascinating and little known trivia along the way.
The Tarot, pendulum, runes and I-Ching are all explored at great depth. Readers discover what Tarot has in common with the Bible, how Norse mythology links to Urim and Thummim and the links of the oldest book in the world, the Book of Changes, has connections to this information as well.
Joseph Smith, founder of the Mormon religion is also discussed in great detail as readers learn how he used Urim and Thummim to divine the book of Mormon, and a more modern prophet, Edgar Cayce , known as the worldâs greatest psychic, also describes the tool, mentioning it almost four dozen times in his life readings.
In the last part of the book, Kaehr digs in to the deepest parts of the human psyche and asks why we choose to use tools in the first place, and shares great insights in the answer to that question. Kaehrâs background in quantum physics exploration also comes into play as she explores parallel universes and alternative realities and how that concept relates to using divination arts.
In the last section of the book, Kaehr delivers as promised by sharing her discovery of materials she feels should be used to revitalize the Urim and Thummim to be used by everyone.
Like all her books, she explains in great detail exactly how to use it and guides the reader through an easy-to-understand process she says will help you make the most of the oracle in your daily life.
Kaehrâs other six books offer tools for transformation, and Divination of God is no exception. She clearly shows how the tool can assist healing and transformation.
An amazing trip around the world helps readers understand ourselves better as we look collectively at human behavior over the past several thousand years. Divination of God is a perfect blend of scholarship and entertainment.
Divination of God breathes new life into the Bible and takes a fresh approach to its interpretation providing readers with a fresh approach to a subject of antiquity.
A few days later, a wonderful friend and client sent me an e-mail telling me she was ordering the Cayce book, and serendipitously attached several pages on Urim and Thummim and the impact they had on the development of Mormonism, which is something we will explore later in the book. These were the same Urim and Thummim I had just read about the week before. The coincidences were mounting quickly and I began to do more research. Little by little, as in so many of my projects, I felt I was being led to write this.
Initially, I thought the book should be all about the Urim and Thummim of the Bible, yet after doing hours of research, I determined the book should also focus on other complimentary oracles from civilizations throughout the world. Some of this information gives a fascinating look into the minds of humankind throughout the ages.
My goal for the book is to allow you to accompany me on my own inner journey of discovery to trace the origins and spiritual importance of the Urim and Thummim and its possible links to earlier times. In the last part of the book, I’ll show you the materials you can use to create your own oracle, revitalizing this ancient Biblical tool, and teach you how to apply it to bring greater clarity and wisdom to your life.
I hope this writing will somehow play a small part in unveiling a previously obscured mystery to benefit all who are able and willing to use it.
In Peace, Shelley Kaehr, Ph.D. July 21, 2005
