I didn't expect to enjoy Divine by Blood as much as I did. I've read both Divine by Mistake and Divine by Choice, I liked the story where it stood and didn't see a need for a third novel. fortunately curiosity got the better of of me, otherwise I would have passed by an excellent book.

Morrigan Parker was born to be somone very special, only she doesn't know it yet. What she does know is that she has never felt like she belonged. Strange Voices in the wind, Odd abilities, why are things happening to her? Raised by Grandparents who aren't really hers, and longing for the mother who wasn't who they told her. Eighteen years of secrets are about to come out. As Morrigan faces the truth about her mother, two paths are set before her. Will she head the call of the Goddess or be lost to the darkness?

P C Cast has a gift for creating worlds that are breathtaking and utterly believable, with depth and richness that causes a deep emotional connection. Divine by Blood can be read as a stand alone novel, But I highly recommend reading the trilogy. Book 1Divine By Mistake Book 2Divine By Choice also you might likeElphame's Choice 1 (Luna) and 2 Brighid's Quest two stories about the children of Shannon's Grand Daughter, of which I hope there will be a third.

1.0 out of 5 stars Comparing Partholon to watching paint dry...., February 9, 2008
drying paint is much more exciting. Against my better judgement I picked this book up and tried it. I wanted to like it, but 'Divine By Blood' was a disappointment from beginning to end.

With all the 'baggage' from the tired plot device we had to wade through in 'Divine By Choice', I thought that more would be heard from Shannon's daughter and indeed Shannon herself. 'Divine By Blood' centers around Rhiannon's daughter Morrigan and her realization of her heritage and powers.

In a nutshell though, nothing really happens. Late teen angst, obligatory voices of evil, chosen of another Partholon goddess and not enough of Shannon, Clan-Fintan or Shannon's daughter to engage your interest. For those readers looking for more hot, steamy sex as provided by the first two books in this series, you won't get it. Kind of makes the whole point of the paranormal romance moot in this case.

So much more could have been done to wind this series up and although I did make it to the end of the book I stopped caring what happened to Morrigan and her 'quest to become the true heir to her powers' long before I reached it.

Pass on this one fans of Partholon. Let 'Divine By Choice' stand as the end of the story and you'll be happier. Better yet, pick up Patricia Briggs or Carrie Vaughn and enjoy REAL paranormal fantasies with great plots, characters and lovescenes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent conclusion!, August 31, 2007
What if events here were mirrored elsewhere, in a land where Goddesses and Gods still roam?

Oklahoma never seemed like home to Morrigan Parker. The truth of her birth has been hidden from her until now, shrouded in secrecy by Shannon Parker's parents to protect Morrigan. Unfortunately, the dark god, Pryderi, wants Morrigan for his own, just as he craved her birth mother, Rhiannon MacCallan, once Epona's Chosen. Will Morrigan choose to follow Pryderi or will she follow the light instead?

What a hauntingly beautiful conclusion to this fabulous trilogy! DIVINE BY BLOOD can be read as a stand alone, as all of the necessary details are provided. Please note, however, that numerous MAJOR spoilers are given for the two previous books.

P.C. Cast is simply a master at wringing emotions from the reader as this tale made me laugh, cry, and even steam in anger and outrage. P.C. Cast covers a lot of ground in DIVINE BY BLOOD, as she begins with the wonder of Morrigan's birth and progresses till Morrigan reaches a true understanding of her heritage. Every moment is to be cherished, as P.C. Cast makes excellent use of her creation of the two worlds mirroring one another.

It is with some sadness that this trilogy concludes. The first book in the series, originally published as GODDESS BY MISTAKE and later republished as DIVINE BY MISTAKE, still remains one of my favorite books by this fantastic author. P.C. Cast once again does a superb job at blending together the mythology of her fantasy world with the mundane world of Oklahoma. Kudos, Ms. Cast!

2.0 out of 5 stars A Bit Disappointing, September 23, 2007
By
After the first two Parthelon books, I couldn't wait for the conclusion, especially since it featured Rhiannon's daughter Morrigan. Unfortunately, while the plot moved along at a brisk pace, I found myself unable to connect to any of the characters, especially those of Morrigan and Keegan, her High Shaman soulmate. I found them both arrogant and self involved, and by the end of the book I can honestly say that I really didn't care what happened to them. It's a shame really, Because I thoroughly enjoyed the previous books. I would have liked the trilogy to end on a high note.

3.0 out of 5 stars A little too lack-luster for me, September 24, 2011
18 years after Devine by Choice, another adventure unfolds in the great land of Partholon...wait...no...that's not right...this happens in the real world! Okay! So...at the end of Devine by Choice, Shannon and Clint imprison Rhiannon in a sacred tree, where she endures the last few months of her pregnancy before giving birth and being petitioned to join the dark forces by a dark God.

Now, if you've read the first two books in the Partholon series you know that Rhiannon, who's not actually a bad person, is well known for making the worst of the worst mistakes but thankfully, one of the Native American Shamans from the tribe that helped Clint and Shannon defeat the evil in the clearing at the end of the last book is loitering around for some random reason. Voila! Problem solved, the evil that petitions Rhiannon is temporarily banished as she gives birth to a daughter named Morrigan. Shannon's parents, who know the entire story of Rhiannon and Partholon and Shannon, take the baby in to raise as their grand daughter as Rhiannon draws her last and final breath.

Fast forward 18 years later and our beloved Shannon, who is still living in Partholon under the guise of Rhiannon the Chosen Beloved of the Goddess Epona, and who is still married to the hottie centaur ClanFintan, and who also gave birth to her own daughter Myrna the same day Morrigan was born. So basically, let's break this down:

PS - Spoiler alert

Rhiannon and Shannon are mirror images. They switched worlds. Rhiannon's intended husband, ClanFintan, ended up marrying Shannon. In Shannon's real world, Rhiannon seduced and became pregnant by ClanFintan's mirror image, Clint. Therefore, Myrna (Shannon and ClanFintant's daughter) and Morrigan (Rhiannon and Clint's daughter) are mirror images. Only...they're in the wrong worlds.

Myrna unfortunately dies at the young age of 18, having giving birth to a daughter Etina and having proven that she has absolutely no goddess given abilities. She was merely a girl, which saddens Shannon greatly, even though the Goddess Epona tells her later, after her daughter's death, that her granddaughter Etina will become the Goddess's Chosen one day.

Morrigan, on the other hand, is living on her grandfather's farm in what I like to call the "real world" and is talking to nature and bonding with rocks while exploring caves. She's fully aware of the two worlds, of who her mother was and She's an odd little cookie, but spunky and energetic and when a little night time adventure into the caves to communicate with the rocks turns deadly, she finds herself pushed through the portal between the worlds and unknowingly becomes the Chosen of another Goddess, deep within the caves of Partholon.

What unfolds is a pretty entertaining adventure. Morrigan immediately comes to love her new life, but must remain hidden, lest someone realize that she's the replica of the daughter of Epona's Beloved. There are tons of things about Morrigan that I can not stand, at all. She's a bit of a pretentious snot, first of all. Secondly, she'll make a decision quickly, with no second thought, if she thinks it will piss someone she doesn't like off. In essence, she's you're typical 2010 teenager. However, I must admit, by the end of the book she'd grown considerably. Devine by Blood is a lot different from the first two books in the series. It doesn't follow the original characters that the drew the readers into the stories initially. In fact, to be honest, it barely glosses over what has happened in their lives, which makes me a touch sad.

5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite author ever!, September 20, 2011
This review is from: Divine by Blood (Partholon) (Paperback)
P.C. Cast keeps me entertained in every story she writes. I just never want them to be over! I love the relationships, the details, the twists, the turns, every single page is exciting. Very much recommend for sci-fi/romance lovers. Suggest the book to be pre-read by parents to determine if subject matter is appropriate for children.

Pc. Cast has done it again!

If you enjoy a sexy read full of action in ancient times this is series will surely give you it!

Divine by mistake, by choice and by blood are books very similar to the other Pc cast publications. Her writing doesnt change much from book to book: there's always sex appeal and spiritualism.

The reason i didnt give it a 5 star is because i got a little tired of Pc. Cast's type of writing. If you have already read God summoning series you'll see the books are all similar.
